It is next to Whitby and the back way to Paraparumu and the kapiti coast from lower and upper hutt. Not a big place but handy to Wellington and Porirua.

There is some rural sections around there. I am not sure what local council they fall under. It is not too far away from me.

Any specific questions?

Cheers

Cliff

I live in Raumati South in paraparaunmu just north of Paekakariki. I am about 60k north of wellington right off of state highway 1.

Pauatanui is a nice area. There aer lifestyle blocks in the area. The housing market is real slow in NZ at the moment. Lower end has gone down but the higher end is not moving yet. People want to hang on to that equity.

There was or is some issue of some kind about wind farming or something in the area. I don't live there so I am not as close to it. Not trying to be negative but tell you of potential issues in the area.

Looking to live in a subdivision or a lifestyle block (in the counry)?

Cheers

Cliff

Pauautahanui is rural lifestylers paradise....... not many rented properties though that I know of, although you may be lucky. It is very close to a newish suburb of Porirua City called Whitby where you may have much better luck in locating rentable property. There's a large wetland wild life reserve which stretches all the way around the head of the inlet.

This area incidently was one of the earliest settlements in Aotearoa, and was part of a major maori route from the west coast through to the Hutt and Poneke. Te Rangihaetea's pa (Nephew of Te Rauparaha, the Maori Napoleon, and composer of Ka Mate) was situated on the hill where the church now is. The school in the same area is one of the oldest in the country. The Pauatahanui Inlet used to be much deeper allowing the passage of large sailing ships deep inland with the mouth of the harbour protected by Fort Paremata....... but the whole lot turned to custard after the 1855 Earthquake (approx 8.2 Richter Scale) which raised the land and made the inlet too shallow for ships and levelled the Fort without a shot being fired.

Hope you're settled in there, and coping with the commuter traffic into town, or taking the train.

Just a few other bits of useless information......

Looking back up the inlet from Camborne on the northern side is Motukaraka on Gray's Road which was a WWII US Marine Base, there's a nice family picnic area there and sheltered waters for the kids too. Its a wind surfer's learning area too.

There's a regional park called Battle Hill on the Paekakariki Hill Road, north of Pauatahanui where Te Rangihaeta and the Hutt Militia had their skirmish.... a great place for a picnic, walking, horse riding, mountain biking etc.

If want a bit more of a challenge there's a road off SH58 just past Pauahatanui on the road to Haywards Hill..... Belmont Road. This is the Old Cobb & Co Coach Road to the Hutt. There's a lot of lifestyle blocks in this area, but at the end of the road there is a paper road which takes you through the farmland to the Belmont Regional Park. You emerge at the old WWII ammunition bunkers on the top of the hill over looking Belmont and the Hutt Valley.

And in Pauatahanui is the very cozy Lighthouse Cinema - we love it there! Sitting in comfy sofas, sipping a glass of wine and watching a good movie is not bad. The restaurant around the corner ("Rushes") is quite good too, but don't go there if you have tickets for the movies. Even for a soup and a glass of wine you are waiting an hour (= laid-back lifestyle).
