Default Petone, Wellington

We have been recommended Petone as a good place to live and that it is an up and coming area.
Anyone else got any opinions- we have two young children and OH will be working in Welli.

Petone's a nice place....... one of the older areas of the Hutt Valley. If you're living on the shoreline be prepared for a few gusty southerlies straight up from Antarctica across the harbour. Korokoro, up the hill or Maungarakei you'd get great views and still be within striking distance of the shops either in Lower Hutt or Petone. There's a bit of a down turn in the real estate market at the moment, but that could mean its to the buyer or renter's advantage.

Here's a few photos of the area....

Petone (pe-toe-ney not pet-one) is just across the harbour from Wellington. Is is close to shopping in lower hutt and has good shopping in petone. They have a good pack-n-save.

As previously posted the wind can be an issue sometimes. Traffic can be a real issue at rush hour but not bad at other times.

The housing market is a dead hammer at the moment so if you are abuyer you are in a good position. Not many buyers. People are waiting for prices to go down, which they haven't too much. Interest rates recently went down a small part and may go down some more before the end of of the year.
