Default Where to stay?

Right guys.

I'm getting to the serious stuff now.

We will be flying straight into Welli at end of march. It will be early morning when we land.

I need advice on where to stay once we get there- hotel/motel until we can find a temporary rental property to use as a base until we find a job and a area to settle and then will find a long term rental.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Beth

ebianca we have stayed here:

83 By The Sea - Motor Lodge. Harbour view motel accommodation in Petone, Lower Hutt, Wellington.

it was easy into Wellington and clean and tidy with the facilities you need for a couple of days and the taxi fare wasnt bad and relatively cheap.

Also stayed at:

Copthorne Oriental Bay Hotel Wellington - Special Internet Rates at HotelClub

Very swish place wonderful views from the rooms we had a room on the top floor overlooking the harvour but expensive.

Thanks for that Catt- will take a look at those.

Maybe I should also point out for those of you who don't know me that well- we also have 2 young children- 4 and 2 so will have to consider that when booking hotel/motel.

We stayed at the Hutt Park Holiday Park over at Seaview (Lower Hutt/Petone way) - it was the cheapest option for us and would probably be quite good for kids cos they have a games room and TV room etc. They have different types of cabins - we stayed in a kitchen cabin (2 bedrooms and small kitchen/dining area) but if thats not enough room you can use the camp kitchen/BBQ facilities. You use the camp showers and toilets but they were brand new when we stayed in 2004 so pretty good.

Think they had self-contained cabins too available if you wanted something with a bathroom/toilet (the cabins are dead close to the toilet block so not too far to stroll over!)

Its right near the beach and about a 15 - 20 min drive into town outside of rush hour (or can get the train from Petone which is a 5 min drive from the park)

Another option for ya! :o)

Cheers,
Jod

Hi

I think we had a conversation about 5 or 6 months ago regarding points for skilled migrants. I was using a different user then, can't remember the user/pswd.

We have been in Auckland for 4 months, we initially stayed in a hotel for a bit of a break after that we rented a fully furnished property from a company called Resettleme, I believe they have properties in Wellington, the guys in Auckland were fantastic, they have made moving here so much easier. We have been in a rental property for 1 month now and they are still helping us.

I sem to remeber that your husband was travelling ahead of you, has he arrived yet? Has he got work?

all the best

Gary

Thanks guys.

Yes Gary we had originnaly planned for OH to go ahead of us but we have now decided to all go together- can't really afford the two trips and i'm pretty sure OH should be able to get a job fairly quickly and he'll get a temporary work visa while we wait for PR.

Hiya

I don't have any personal recommendations for Welly but the AA has a good accommodation directory - find it online here

I also recommend looking at the AA guide on line. It seems that a holiday park would be the best bet with the kids because of the play areas and cabins. If you want to be closer to the CBD, a backpackers accommodation could prove adequate.

Hiya - we stayed in Wellington for a week while we had a think about whether Wellington was where we wanted to live. We stayed right in the centre of the city, so very close to everything - it was a really unusual apartment type building, built on stilts over a carpark!! But it was really well equipped - lovely large open plan kitchen/diner/lounge, and 2 bedrooms/bathrooms downstairs. Had washing machine/dryer too so ideal as you are travelling with kids. It was called What'sNew on Boulcott; What'sNew also do apartments in other parts of the city centre too. Price wise it compared very favourably with the cost of a week's stay in a motel.

Here's the link to where we stayed

We have come accross this place which we think we are going to go for as a base for when we arrive.
It is part way between Wellington and Porirua (which seems the place we want to settle at the moment)
