Default Good/Bad areas in Tauranga???

Hi all,
This is going to have to be a really quick post as I'm on a campsite wifi and don't have much of my hour left!!
MonkeyControl and I arrived in NZ at the beginning of the month and having travelled round as much as we can we have decided to settle in Tauranga (getting jobs etc permitting!!!)
We're going to be looking for a rental property as we need to give the campervan back next week - can anyone help are there any areas we should avoid??? Can anyone suggest any good areas to live??
Thanks,
Clare

Default Areas of Tauranga

Hi.....we were out in NZ in November 2007 looking around Tauranga we were shown houses by a couple of estate agents both very nice one of which is ex uk, we were shown houses in Matua, Welcome Bay, Cherrywood & Bethlehem all looked pretty good.......we discussed with them that we wouldnt be moving out until mid to late 2008 and that we would be looking to rent. One was very helpful and suggested that we contact her when we are ready to move as she had contacts with rental people. Maybe worth your while giving her a ring. Not going to provide her number but if you contact me by private message i will give it to you.

Hi Catt,
Thanks for your reply - we've actually rented a house now. We managed to get an inexpensive 3 bed house in Welcome Bay that will do us until we decide properly where we want to buy. Speaking to people we've been advised that Bethlehem and Matua are both really good areas (but of course prices reflect that!!!).
Give me a shout if there is anything I can help you with re: Tauranga,
Clare

Hi Bunstar!

Welcome to the Sunny Bay! :o) Sorry - havent been on here for a while so missed out on a lot - when did u get here? We moved to Tauranga from Welly back in June last year and we're loving it! (Been in NZ nearly 4 years now) We bought a (slightly major!) do-up in Cherrywood - think we were v lucky with the area cos we were only up here for a few days and scouted out the areas and bought within about 2 or 3 days!! Turned out to be a v good street (ok, prob worst house in the street but hey - we'll sort that out given time!) and so close to town (3kms) - we love it especially after being in Wellington and having a 10km 30 - 45min trip into work every day (and expensive cab ride home after nights out!).

Anyway, I'm waffling now - been on the computer all day so must go to bed now! Give me a shout if you fancy a chat or if u fancy a beer or 12 in town one night? Daz and I are always up for an excuse for a drink and bit of socialising!

Jod

Hey Jodie,

Thanks for the reply - we have been in Tauranga for 2 months now. My OH has found a job based out of Rotorua but he gets to travel all over the BOP. I'm still looking for work so have just started temping to keep busy until I find something suitable.

How's the work on the house going? We're hoping to buy soon but I really need to get a permanent job first to get a decent mortgage.

Quick question for you or anyone else in this area. Can you recommend a decent hairdresser in Tauranga? Am in desperate need of a hair cut but don't know where to go - would definitely prefer a recommendation rather than going in somewhere cold!!

Cheers,
Clare

Hi Clare, I used to have my hair cut and coloured by Wendy at the Salon on the Strand - not the cheapest salon in Tauranga, but I reckon it was worth it as a special treat.

If you wanna buy a house, we have a lovely one for sale in Pyes Pa see my thread on this board!!

Maggie xx

Hi Maggie,

Thanks for the recommendation - might nip in there this afternoon and see what they can do with my overgrown mop!

Rest assured, when you posted about your house for sale I had a good look straight away. The house looks beautiful but way, way out of our price range...at the moment we'd probably be able to afford something the size of a single garage. Hope you get a buyer soon, have you had much interest?

Clare
