    Default Rental price guide

This gives some idea of how much you should be paying for a rental in your chosen area. You'll probably need to scroll down the pages a bit to find the tables.

They're weekly - see here: Explanation of statistical terms - Department of Building and Housing

Although I'd love it if those were monthly rates!

Any idea what the taxes are on a home, if you buy one? In this state in the US, figure about 3000 year on a home valued at 260K.

    Thanks.

    Default Tax on house

It's called rates in nz, not property tax. Depends on where you live, the type of property (unit, freehold, cross leasing, or life style). Generally nz$ 300k -500k house, you pay $1500-$2000 in major cities. For some councils, the environmental rates is separate, like where I live, so another $300-400, but that covers unmetered (means unlimited) use of water. The rates are accessed based on govt valuation, so not necessarily what you pay for the house. Many council website allow you to entre a street number and search the rates for that house.
