Hi, we are in Welly and had central heating and combi boiler installed last year-its great and very reasonable, expat who has c/h company installed it and very reasonable cost for work involved. He is really busy as c/h becoming a popular choice.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum

Ahh the old central heating! Is it gas fired? We've only had gas in one house so far, doesnt seem to be in many places.

hi all
there was a guy in Chch ,who was looking for plumbers with experiance in "wet systems " and wondered if it had caught on.
is gas and oil readily available or is all the gas in the storage tanks
i will have to hunt, i seem to remember somthing about town gas

I have a friend who installed a pellet bolier to heat a water tank and pipe the hot water to radiators around the house.

He is from Germany and have lots of experience in heating so this is his forte. The hardware he used are all imported so will be very costly. However the results are impressive.

Hi Folks,

Yeap! I am still around, just been really busy with work and life in general. I am always on the look for posts on the forums still!

About central heating, when the winter hits us in Wellington, I really appreciate the value of having insulation in other houses like my friend's. I am renting at the moment and my landlord does not want to install anyform of insulation in the house so it is really cold.

My wife can breath "smoke" in the air when we wake up and also during the day. Having the sunshine does not help .... I am working in the day so the office is nice and warm but she is not so have to stay in the house...poor thing.

We are endeavoring to buy a property soon in Oct and the first thing we will do is to check for whether insulation is installed. If not, we will install insulation on the walls and cellings, if not, having central heating is not that useful when the heat escapes easily.

Being cold is not as easy as I thought being hot!
