Dont worry too much if you have to look for work outside of PN.

NZ is quite an easy country to get around (well the North Island is) and we dont find other towns and cities ever too far away when you're in Wellington as you have the option of driving or catching a plane to most places.

I agree with you to a certain extent although, Masterton probably isnt considered very far from Wellington, but I wouldn't fancy commuting over the Rimutaka Hill every day.. and the train service is okay but again, every day would get very tedious..

For visiting other places, though, you're right, the north island is easy to get around.. the roads are so quiet.. it's quite eerie sometimes..

We drove up the desert road towards Taupo a few weeks ago,,, and there was low cloud round the top of Mt Ruapehu, and we were the only ones on the road... it was quite spooky...

I am not used to commuting. Wherever I find work that is where I will have to live. I am sure that any commuting I have to do in NZ will be more than what I do now. It takes me 5 minutes to drive from home to the office!

Hi Craig,

I took a look at the Seek website and while there were a number of jobs that would fit my experience. Unfortunately, at the bottom of each job listing was the same old note:

"Only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply for this position.
For advice on obtaining New Zealand work or residence visas visit the New Zealand Immigration Service."

I won't let this put me off though. I will just have to make an appointment to see them when I am in NZ and hope that I impress them enough. I could drop a few names while I am there - Mother Bear, Taffy, Dawn, Natty Dread and Dave Carter. Hmm, maybe not a good idea. I'd probably get locked up.

Hi Shell,

Don't be discouraged by the note at the end....I ignored this on Seek, and applied for sales jobs anyway, and because of my experience in the UK, have been offered a job!
Don't give up if you get a few knock backs straight away...I did...but kept on perservering, and got what I wanted in Auckland in the end

Good on y bstar that's exactly what I had intended to do! Never have been very good as doing as I'm told! Life's more exciting that way and I end up getting to do loads of stuff that others don't just because I dare ask.
