Portabello is on route to the albstross colony on the peninsula.
We had looked to by a business there, but its along the coast line and cooler with the sea and fog hangs in the value.
Not much there apart from a few shops and maybe 15 minutes drive to the city- Waverley is nearer and more popular with schools ect nearby.
We met a horrid brit in our bank and he lives there along with other winging poms..
the ones that keep on about how great the uk is and stuff- make me feel like saying why dont you go and live there then!!
Expats like that get on my nerves...we dont need them --in new zealand believe in new zealand and knit in with the community..
Where is my soap box! ;)
More questions and I will answer best I can.
Made lots of contacts and friends here.so no hassles..

Yeah I know the sort you mean but I find here that alot of middle aged Kiwi's think I'm mad to leave such a beautiful country as England behind - more in the way of shops and comforts though I imagine. It's like they're reminiscing about a visit they made many years back, ahhh.
AND I have found that the Kiwi's in Auckland also moan about the weather here tenfold than the UK, bizarre. Well it's so changeable I suppose it'll always be the hot topic!
You've really fitted in well by the sounds of it and I think that's great, amazing you already have an up and running business and a house soon too - all in 3 months!!
Thanks for the extra info too, thanks for allowing all the crazy questions, ha!
I saw some rentals in Waverley, I noticed it because it's the name of my mum's road.... ooooh :o spooky.
Crossed off list: Portobello. Why?..... Answer: Don't want to live in Whinge Street!

Tee hee just having a giggle to myself I know Dunedin is very Scottish orientated but hearing the names of places like Portobello and Waverly makes me giggle and reminds me of Edinburgh ::)

Default a house at last

Managed to find our house-with heatpump.
looking to complete on 27th April and move out of this cold rented overpriced abode!
Even with two months rent to pay for unless we find somewhere it will be worth it.

Hi Mark, Hey well done! Have you moved yet? How lovely, a heat pump!! This house is freakin cold I can tell you. We've just bought a de-humidifier to help, although the weather has warmed up alot again lately.... talk about changing it's mind every 5 minutes, ha!
We're still looking at Dunedin but the jobs aren't there just yet as Eddie's job possibility has now gone to Wellington instead... ah well no rush. How's your cafe doing?

Default lovely jubbly

the cafe is doing great and making us work real hard!
Mind you after 12 months packing through various countries in Asia it is bound to be hard with the brain not up to full speed.

But, busy and earning and spending and sorting staff out.
We have exchanged moeny and move into our great new house next week.

Pople are real great here and the weather has been brilliant as well -today blues and calm - but Kiwis still say its cold ha

Shame you arent coming here as you would have liked it.
so, alone in Dunedin we remain..

but its sooooo good

Ha ha no we still may be there yet! Constantly looking at the job vacancies!! I love the look of Dunedin and all it's beauty! Plus, watching the making of Lord of the Rings the other night has just re-iterated why we'd like to be aound that!! You lucky things, ha!
All the best in your new house.
Funny you say about Kiwi's saying how cold it is all the time, it's even like that here sometimes. But everytime I mention Dunedin to a new person, it's, " Uh so cold...... but a lovely place!"..... they forget that we come from cold England and we don't mind the cold as long as the house is warm hey!
This morning is beautiful, bright and sunny, (warmer outside than inside!), so I'm off for a walk to warm up with the kids, ha!
Bye for now, hope you're nice and busy at the cafe.
Debra

Default gift wrapped

Lets hope you make it here as we need more people.
Weather to date I cannot fault with some glorious sunny and still days and you just wrap up locally.
But still able to sit outside the bars at night and enjoy.
And mornings drive down to work are always to treasure with beautiful sights...
Do I need to keep going on ....

Keep me informed

mark
