How Did You Decide on Where to Live?

What really impressed us was the size of Nelson was "just right" . Big enough to have a Warehouse, Farmers, Pac n Save, etc - but provincial enough to have the space and lack of traffic we were looking for. Although a predominantly a port town - the culture (viniculture especially), the surrounding countryside, proximity to skiing in winter, beaches in summer etc. in the urban areas, you are never more than 10 minutes on a bike from a reserve or beach.

Spending boxing day on the beach at rabbit island was a fantastic experience. the whole area (about 15 acres?) was just peppered with huge gatherings of families. 3 generations all with their deck chairs and barbies going, grannies knitting, kids playing soccer and everyone in between with a tinny in their hand. It was a really great atmosphere, until the kiwi v's poms beach cricket game started (only joking!).

Memories like that have helped drive us on and set in stone our plans, and we know that we experienced a snap shot of life 'as is' for Nelsonians - it wasnt rose-tinted through 'holiday sunglasses' if you follow what I mean.

Cant wait to steep ourselves in our new life in Nelson.
