unfurnished homes are available for long term rent at around 450 to 500 dollars per week. You have to commit to 6 or 12 months. We have two furnished homes avaialble , threee bedroom, one in Albany one in Orewa. Fully equipped foe immigrant families. They can be rented for short periods, 4 to 12 weeks at a price of $650 per week.

As I said before, I thought that was quite high but i've probably had some misleading information in the past regarding property prices around Auckland. I realise it is the most 'pricey' area but not that much.... ah well.... we'll just have to look out for a nice big tent! ;)

Debd, prices vary so much over Auckland - looking at my copy of the Herald I would say you could get a unit near the City at $200pw, or $500pw! A three-bed house is $300pw in one area, $800pw in a more prestigious area. You have got to be there and do the leg-work.

Plus we managed perfectly well for two months in an unfurnished rental - a lot cheaper. We had to buy certain things - fridge-freezer, washing machine, tv and lots of miscellaneous household stuff. We bought folding mattresses to sleep on (but you could choose iron fold-up bed, or air mattresses). We had dining table and chairs, coming so we bought a picnic table with bench to eat on. Watching tv sitting on the floor was a nuisance, and we ended up buying a couple of chairs the kids now have in their bedrooms.

(Just thought I would slot that in.)

Thanks Glenda, sorry for late reply!
That's good to know. We were hoping for something like that in those price ranges!!
This morning my husband's work have just offered us 4 weeks paid accommodation to begin with so that's a real bonus, will give us some extra time to find a suitable home once we're there.
It'll be hard to live without all your things for a few weeks I guess, especiallly because we'll be shipping our fridge, freezer and washing machine (as there is the space for it in our 20 ft container!).
Hope you are well settled in now, I bet you're having a great time!?
Thanks again, Deb

Just a note to remind those likely to be renting unfurnished accommodation or buying their own house whilst awaiting container delivery, you can rent all sorts of household items from DTR .
