My brother raised the valid point earlier about renting a house on arrival.

In the UK most of these things unless done through a Private Landlord are sunject to credit check and sometimes even proof of income. Now I wouldn't fancy starting a job with no fixed abode so the house has gotta come first.

Could this be a potential problem or have peeps had no problem with this. I mean it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to get a 'scrubber' job just for an income to get a letting agent to accept us but not ideal as you can imagine.

Whatcha reckon peeps?

Cheers

B*%%*cks!!

Why'd you not think of that a few months ago?

We're slightly different in that Sylvie has a ob, but she'll have only had it for a few weeks when we try to rent..

something else to worry about then..

Nice one mate..! :icon_wink:

Sooo many people rent when they first get to NZ that it can't be that difficult surely? If all else fails, you'd maybe have to rent a bach, motel room or caravan, as holiday makers do and they don't need credit references. The same might apply to apartments or houses and they might rent those out for specific periods to long-stay holidaymakers or those, for example, on a WHV that aren't staying around for too long.

There's always the YMCA, especially for you, Stevey, being a Christian type and all that. :icon_mrgreen:

Having rented a lot in the past as a student, I never found any trouble in getting a place to live. I imagine if you turn up from England then that gives you instant cred.

I can't imagine it being a problem. Afterall considering the landlord's fear of P dealers, undesirables, etc, immigrants from England would be welomed with open arms.

When you think that the UK is stuffed full of these, maybe it isn't such a good idea to rely on flashing your UK identity. ;)

Hi Steve

I hadn't thought about that either, so I'm gonna email the real estate companies and ask this question and I hope to get back to you soon.

Cheers

P.S and there's me just thinking go over and go with the flow. HA HA
nice idea.

Renting is pretty easy if you don't have a job. As long as you've got some cash reserves while your looking. I'm in that boat right now.

Yes indeedy they do have YMCAs in NZ. Might be a better option for those without children although it does talk about children's events and is still worth looking at. Sounds like they do cater for kids as well.
