Putararu had termites.

They imported some telephone poles from Australia, stuck em around their town and out came termites to infect their homes.

Wasn't there a post a long time ago about NZ not having termites, and the only way they would come was if the Brit's tried to import one of those rickety wooden cars of theirs? Was it Puegot? Citroen? Morgen?

;) ;) All mispellings and comparisons to France were on purpose.....but there really was a post about no termites, and someone posted something about the Morgan and it's wood frame

Yes, wood siding does require painting now and then. I suspect that it would require even more frequent painting in the land of ozone holes because sunlight is so rough on paint.
Ozone layer gets thicker
02 February 2006 ?
By MATTHEW TORBIT

The Earth's protective ozone layer is regenerating after decades of deterioration ? but don't put away the sunscreen just yet. A new study has found that the ozone layer appears to be thickening ? including over New Zealand ? thanks to a reduction in the emissions that have eroded it.

But the scientist leading the investigation, Janet Bornman, who arrived in New Zealand from Denmark yesterday, said the threat of harmful ultraviolet rays remained high.

The report, published by a 28-member panel for the United Nations, says the rates of sunlight-induced skin cancer are expected to rise in light-skinned populations around the world. Rates of melanoma are forecast to double by 2015, and not decrease for another 30 years, despite early indications the ozone layer is on the mend.

"We think that the ozone layer is repairing itself. There are many other factors that one needs to take into consideration before we say for sure, but it appears to be recovering," Professor Bornman said.

The improvement was probably because of a drop in emissions, she said. However, holes in the ozone layer are expected to persist for several decades.
