Default Emigrate to NZ? Not been there before! ???

Hi, :icon_mrgreen: my partner, myself and our 18month old daughter arrived in NZ almost four weeks ago, we had never been here before and like you we had limited finances so that meant all or nothing and so far so good, the flight was a bit of a nightmare, we were told at Manchester that we would not need to collect our cases until we arrived at NZ however this was not the case we ended up collecting them at each airport we hit and just a word of advice do not go via LA they were extremely unhelpful. If I were you I would take the most direct route possible, or at least stop off for a few days along the way. Once here we managed to find a lovely rental property on the Kapiti Coast for $250 a week, the area is beautiful and the people very friendly and helpful. We are both nurses and we managed to sort out the jobs before we left the Uk, one less complication to deal with now. :icon_lol: Good luck

IONAP

Thanks for your positive response. Sorry to hear about your nightmare flight. Have read somewhere on this forum 'to avoid flying via LA' so you have confirmed that. How did you manage to secure jobs before going out there? Have you already obtained your visas or are you there on a work to residence visa? Are you on the Kapiti coast because thats where your jobs are, or is it where you particularly wanted to settle? Hope all these questions are'nt boring you, but will find your answers very interesting.
Meanwhile, Good Luck to you and hope you continue to enjoy your new life!

Hi
Sorry for the delay in responding but we have been experiencing a few problems with the computer.
Yes, regarding the flights via LA I also read that post however when I mentioned the problems stated in it to the travel agent they managed to persuade me that this was not the case, foolish that I am I sadly believed her:012: , the immigration wasnt the problem we were only there about 10 mins to be fair, the problem was having to collect our luggage and then get it to another terminal in such a short time (25mins before our next flight), we found the airport staff were less than helpful and they actually refused to help us push the pram. My sister in law flew via Bangkok with Quantas, she never saw her luggage from leaving Manchester to arriving in Wellington, she was full of praise for them if thats any help.
Our jobs I found via many hours on the internet emailing people with our Cv's, we started the process of getting our nurses registration first that took the longest approx 3 months in all. We had our interviews over the phone, once we heard we had gained the positions the house went on the market. We came on 2 year work visas which took two days to be issued at London, I couldnt believe how quick they were. Once the money for the house came through we booked the flights and arrived three weeks later. the whole process took about 4 months. Now we are here we are going to put in an expression of interest, and hopefully gain residency from that.
We decided on the Kapiti Coast because of our jobs, although I have to say it is a beautiful area, we actually live about 50mins from work but we decided that it was worth the travel.
Hope this is of use to you, let me know how you get on or if I can be of any use. Regards :icon_lol:
