Default Cost of Childcare in NZ

Can somebody please clarify for me the cost of childcare in NZ. Currently in the UK, I pay 60 per week for an out of school club for my daughter. Generally, I take her at say 8.00 a.m. in the morning and pick her up at say 5.30 p.m. and inbetween times the out of school club takes her to school. Does NZ offer similar services for children at school and what would the cost be approximately. My Husband would be the main earner in the family, but if I wished to work full time at a later date, I would have to work out whether it would be financially viable to do so. I am currently on a very good wage in the UK as a personal assistant.

Your help in this matter would be gratefully received.

    In Auckland our little one's daycare costs $70 a day (08h30 - 17h30).

I believe if your children are over 3 they are entitled to 20 hours free childcare a week which would almost halve the costs.

I am sorry, does this say 70 dollars a day or is it a week?

    hi gnom,
How long does it take before yr child is being accepted into a childcare or preschool?
Hubby had visited many childcare around eastern Wellington but so far all of them just put our child on waitlist (i.e. we're still unable to secure a place for her on coming Jan ) She should be joining the 4yr old class next year.
Do you have to constantly called them up to check for places after putting on waitlist or do we just patiently wait for a place?
    Appreciate any advice. Many thanks..

We struggled to find a place for Belle - all had waitlists. We managed to get her into a daycare that had only just been built so wasnt yet full. Are there any new daycares in your area?

    Hi TanyaJ,
Thanks for yr advise. Hubby is the one in NZ and we'll only join him in Dec. He's always so engrossed at work that I don't think he'll notice any new childcare centre even if there's any . So far I'm the one checking out the internet giving him the list of CC around the area we'll be staying or his work area.
Guess I could only check out the neighbourhood once I'm physically there.
