We went with Vodafone - no idea why really, just think they were the 1st shop we saw when we walked into Auckland city centre on our 1st day in NZ!! I had to get whole new package of phone and sim as I had dropped my phone down the toilet the week before we left UK!!

M xx

If your UK handsets are unlocked then just buy a SIM from Vodaphone. Telecom phones don't use SIM's so you'll need to buy a Telecom phone if you wish to use them.

I'd recommend choosing PrePay initially rather than a monthly contract (then you can work out if its cheaper)

How much would a vodaphone sim cost? I have seen them for sale on ebay for about ?30. Would it be worth buying one before we leave the UK?

Thanks.
We were going to do pre pay anyway- thats what we had in the UK.
On the vodafone website the simcards are $35. I don't think you could use a UK Vadafone sim as they are different numbers etc.

These were NZ vodaphone sim cards. But if they are only $35 in NZ then it is cheaper to wait. I just thought that by getting one before we flew I would be able to give a contact number to the animal shippers.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your UK vodafone will work in NZ if you activate international roaming. Ring Customer Services or do it online. You'll probably be able to pick up an NZ Vodafone sim card at the airport when you arrive. If not, there are Vodafone shops in just about every main street and shopping mall in NZ.

If you really want an NZ number before you leave the UK, PM me and I'll send you one for a small fee.

The only problem with global roaming is although the phone will work ok, you can get charged international rates for each incoming and outgoing call! It's fine for a trip, but living here it's worth the $35 for a NZ number

Don't take that the wrong way KP
