Default Good Friday in Hamilton
Remember good old bank holidays in the UK when everywhere closed, everyone got the day off, the roads were empty and everyone just enjoyed the liberty of a short week? This is what Hamilton is like today. This is our first easter here and what a nice surprise. Ran out of milk and bread this morning and had to dribe 10k to find a dairy that was open, all the closer ones and the big supermarkets were closed. The roads were completely empty at 10.00 a.m., no one around at all. All the shops are shut, the odd little dairy or superette that is open are not allowed to sell alcohol, banks are shut so no staff have drawn the short straw and been rota'd on against their will. Flippin' fab I reckon except having to wait an extra 30 mins for my tea and toast but that was my own fault for assuming it would be the same as the UK. Nothing is!!

We spent last Easter in Gisborne, and it was like a ghost town for about 3 days!! There was very little open, and we were at a loss for what to do with 2 toddlers and the in-laws!! (but that might have been the case whenever we went, Gisborne wasn't one of the most inspiring places that we visited on our travels, sorry Gisborne!) We stopped off in Opotiki on the way back to Tauranga, and think we may have ended up in the same cafe at the same time as Lil Amy and her other half - small world, eh?

This year?? Well we paid homage to Easter by indulging in some retail therapy, managed to be in Waitrose yesterday afternoon at the exact time that they were reducing the price of all the Easter eggs, and got a fabulous gourmet organic egg (for me and Ken obviously!) reduced to a third of the normal price! Did an Easter egg hunt for the kids this morning (just round the house as its snowing here right now!) and they loved it.

Happy Easter to all of those who celebrate Easter, and for everyone else, "Happy excuse to eat chocolate til you are sick"!

we got caught out on good friday to , friends of ours were having a barbie and we thought we would get some tucker on friday morning as we had a hectic day on thursday(jack johnson concert ,the guy is too cool for words)
had to chip out some old sausages from the back of the freezer,think they were within their shave by date.
the other bank holidays (except easter sunday) it seemed most of the super markets were open. it is nice to have real public holidays

Easter is a four day weekend here in NZ. It is also a stat day so business must close or pay a fine.
