Default Teacher training in NZ

My daughter wants to be a high school science teacher and is currently taking a chemistry degree here in the UK. Is it better for her to do her teacher training in the UK afterwards or do it in NZ? Would it help her job prospects if she trained in NZ?

I don't know much about the differences between the two teacher training programmes, but if looking for long term work in NZ as a teacher, I would say doing the teacher training in NZ would be much better. It will make it easier for schools to relate to her, and there will most likely be many valuable links in to important people/places for future job prospects from within the course.

I think I'm right in saying that, if you want to teach in NZ, you need to have at least 2 years NZ teaching experience before you are 'let off the leash' so I would think having her teacher training in NZ would cut out this interim period.

This gives you some idea of the steps she would need to take if she did her training in the UK.

Yay science - I think you told me before that Jen was studying chem. Either place she does her training, I suspect a good science teacher will be valuable.

She had already thought that training in NZ would be better for her regards getting a job. It looks as if Chch Uni do the courses so she could even live with mummy & daddy while she trained.
