Default Ikea update

I was browsing Wikipedia and I ended up at the Ikea Page and saw this:

"IKEA has purchased a site near Auckland to open New Zealand's first store. it is slated for an early 2009 opening. it is owned by the franchisor of Perth+Adelaide"

I have started saving, as I always spend way too much.

Also how tragic am I as I am getting excited a going to the opening on the new Mitre 10 Mega in Upper Hutt.

I know, the shame . New Zealand has aged me. What's happened to planning nights out?

On the plus side, my mother will be so proud!!!

If it's anything like the one thats just opened in Hamilton, you'll be lucky to get near the place for a week or so!

Smile IKEA's coming *doing happy dance*

Sweet Jeebus! Thanks be to the retail gods! As an interior designer and new NZ resident, I've been stymied by the lack of interiors resources here. Say what you will about IKEA quality, they're at the top of their game for affordable contemporary design.

DH and I spent some quality time at Freedom Furniture this weekend which seems like a cross between Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel but lacking the quality of either, at least in upholstery.

Any tips for Christchurch home shopping would be soooo appreciated.

Of course, as anyone who has ever shopped there knows, Ikea is Swedish for "Out of Stock." I love the place, but whenever I've been there, I spend hours figuring out what I could buy instead of what I intended to buy.

I agree with you, Nolasmom, shopping for home furnishings in Chch can be a little frustrating. Have you been out to the furniture shop out at Tower Junction? Not the one next to Toy World, but the one next to the place that sells grills and outdoor furniture--sorry that I can't remember any of the names! I was only in there briefly, but it seems to have some nice contemporary items that aren't as expensive as that place that shares the same building as Harvey Norman on Moorehouse.

It's always nice to know there's an Ikea around but I never seem to really but much there. i think Magnet etc needs a run for their money though.
It's supposed to be opening in Albany, very close to us...people here are quite happy about that and look at all the jobs it'll create!
I need some new cheap storage boxes, they're SO dear here!

Storage stuff is dear here isn't it - nice storage stuff I mean - wicker, cane etc. I thought that would have been cheaper here being so close to Asia where most of it's made. Maybe it's the importing thing that's important given NZ's tough titty rules on plants, seeds, FRUIT and the like!!!!!! We're sort on storage just coz I can't find anything I really like and when I do it's vair vair expensive.

Wow, that is great! I missed those cheap and good ikea stuff back in Singapore. Hopefully they will be as affordable in NZ too.

Btw, folks, this is Pulsarblu...I have been MIA for sometime again.

Have been really busy with work and now I am moving again. Looking for a rental that is near town so I can walk to work, save some money.

Besides, the current Landlord has stopped communicating with us to fix issue with the garage flooding...anyway....

Will keep all updated....
