Slingshot - yeah, ihug - hell no! I deal with a lot of people on internet related issues, and by far and away the most complaints are about ihug. Their customer service is supposedly appauling.

The problem with dealing with any other company other than Telecom at the moment, is that if you have any problem, you have to wait for your ISP to contact telecom and get back to you. Hopefully this will all change with the unbundling of the network.

Poor Glenda! What a stinker. I agree with Taffy about all companies having to go through Telecom to sort out any problems - that was a pain in the backside when actually setting up in the first place. I haven't had to have many dealings with ihug's customer services, thankfully, so can't comment there. Luckily when I signed up with ihug they weren't forcing you to take out any long term contracts, so hopefully when there is some actual competition in the market I will be poised to jump on a better deal.

Anyone have any idea about whether there are plans to lay fibre optic cables anywhere at any time??? Then maybe we could reach some proper internet speeds....

You can get MetroFibre in Auckland and Wellington (possibly ChCh too, but not sure). Hamilton has just had a new fibre system installed too. It aint cheap though!

We were trying to connect our new internet wireless connection wjilst all this palava was going on. We had a problem installing and spent about a day and a half talking to technicians to get it sorted. Everytime we rang back because they hadn't rung us back as they said they would we had to hand on for about an hour before the phone was even answered. Apparently they were inundated with problems and complaints about this switch over thing.
We're sorted now at last so we'll see what happens from here on in!

Whooo-hoooo, we're all getting a week's free internet connection and Telescum are giving a million bucks to charity. That'll be a million bucks they've throttled out of us poor subscribers by providing a terrible service at an exhorbitant price 'eh.
