Rain falling in north - again

The big storm arrived early this morning, but it is not as bad as some forecasters expected.

There is heavy rain falling on the northern part of the North Island this morning.

Thirty-five millimetres has been recorded in Kaikohe overnight, and it is still coming down.

MetService forecaster Andy Downs says the winds are quite severe, with gales recorded at 120 kilometres an hour in Kerikeri.

He says the front is moving southeast and will bring heavier rain to Auckland, the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty over the course of the day.

Andy Downs says up to 90 millimetres of rain is expected in parts of Bay of Plenty, and weather warnings are likely for parts of Canterbury and Otago later on.

It really wasn't too bad, thanks Mother Bear. Bit of rain and wind overnight leaves us a little tired today, but after a week of gorgeous blue sky weather up here we cannot complain too much.

Wow Glenda, what's going on up there? Northland has had a right battering this year. considering they call it the Winterless North. I'd tell you to move to the South Island, but I don't want to tempt fate......

Jokes aside, hope the new house has survived intact.

It is still the 'winterless north', Kokopeli. Temperatures are good - highs of around 14 to 18 degrees, only the occassional frosty night. Just a lot of wet stormy weather this year. Not quite ready for the woolly gloves, hats and scarfs!!!
