Yep, I reckon you gonna have to come to Auckland and watch a game at Eden Park. Sit in the terraces and then I think you might find the atmosphere your after.

Have been to quite a few games at Eden Park and loved the atmosphere there. I would also recommend going to the 7s in Wellinton in February if your able to. The atmosphere there is fantastic.

I have to say though that if you go to NPC games or Super 14 games then the atmosphere is much much more subdued

Have fun

A big thanks to Nick_and_Jacky and LilAmy

I loved your Likes and Dislikes, it made me all warm inside and reminded me of the days when i lived in South Africa, very similar lifestyle and cant wait to get to New Zealand.

LilAmy you mentioned the clothes were expensive well good news, i have a ladies fashion shop in England where i sell high fashion clothes and really good prices and I will be bringing that Business to New Zealand. The clothes will be trendy and affordable.

I look forward to hearing more good comments about New Zealand, does anyone know Takapuna if that is a good or bad place?

Thanks,
NZgirl

Takapuna is a great place and if I had the money that would be my first choice of place to live. Property is expensive here though to buy which is why were not there. Its great, it has a lovely beach. It has shops, cafes, bars. Its easy for getting around the rest of the North Shore by bus if you need to use the bus and for getting into town as well by bus. Has some nice restaurants. Has good schools near by. Its a really good area.

Is this where your thinking of coming to?

We spent two weeks living at the campsite next Takapuna Beach when we first came to NZ last year and had a great time. Takapuna has got a really vibrant main street - loads of cafes and restaurants. There are also quite a few nice fashion boutiques, a cinema, library, banks and major stores.

Property along the Takapuna seafront is mega expensive - well up over ten million dollars if you've got that much to spend. It gets much cheaper as you get further away from the sea. The traffic is horrible though and you'll have to take the motorway over the Harbour Bridge if you want to go into Auckland CBD. It took me two hours to travel about 15kms one morning. I spent an hour of that trying to get down the motorway on-ramp at 7.00am! You can drive down into Devonport and catch the ferry, but even that gets busy. The up side is that you're north of Auckland, so getting out to the Bays and beyond is easy and it's a short trip to the fantastic thermal pools at Waiwera!

Takapuna Beach is one of the few campsites within easy distance of AKL and seems to be a popular destination for newly arrived migrants and a first night/last night stop for campervan hirers.

Kokopeli

I was at the ABs / Springboks game. I think the poor rugby reflected in the enthusiasm of the crowd. The best part of the night was just before Rocokoco (spelling?) made his run - the Paul Kelly stand was in uproar as a paper aeroplane made its way to the centre spot. I think the ABs got a try just after that!

It was good to be able to have a beer watching the game, although it would have been even better for beer had it been warmer.

6 of us went down from Nelson on saturday morning, stopped at the Lewis Pass for a brew. We used a thermette to boil the water. Fantastic device, bit like a circular metal drum with a channle / funnel in the middle. you light a wee fire in the bottom and drop twigs & sticks down the funnel...5 minutes later enough boiling water for 6 cuppas. It was blummin cold on the top - about minus 5, but so so still clear and peaceful. We found some hot pools on the banks of the river too! Staying over at a motel somewhere and drove back up sunday morning - fantastic bacon and egg rolls from the tea rooms at Culverdon too. Great weekend with the boys!

Cheers

Nick

Hiya Nick,

My kids were engrossed by that very same paper plane. Says a lot that they thought it was the best part of the night! Joe Rococoko (?) came over to the Smiths City stand to retrieve a ball during the warm up. We tried to get him to sign our programmes, but I reckon he was too focused 'cos he'd got a late call up!

Made me think about David James who hoofed a ball that hit my young 'un during the warm up for England -v - Croatia at Portman Road a couple of years back. Poor bloke couldn't do enough to apologise. Nice bloke. Rubbish goalie.

Did you see the footage from the Charity Shield on the news? Chelsea v Man Utd at the new Wembley. Mate, I swear we could hear them singing in Christchurch! Made my hair stand on end. Now that's what I call atmosphere.....

Hi Kokopeli
i was lucky enought to be at the charity shield on sunday, was a great day out.and a top buzz atmosphere.
i have not seen it back yet,but the united did not stop singing the whole way through.
it was a treat from one of my mates that i occastionly go to old trafford with as a sort of leaving gift.seeing united will be the thing i miss, oh and the family of course.
that said i am a footie fan ,but played rugby for over 20 years and look forward to seeing the crusaders and the ABs. being able to get tickets for them will be a bonus as the only way we can ever get tickets to twickers is through the rugby club and then the clubs lottery.
dont know if the rugby atmosphere over there is a north v south thing as a brummie bloke i spoke to says the cheifs games are a bit quiet to.
all the best
johnty

Hey Johnty, what's the new stadium like? One of my mates did the electrics and said it was awesome. Do the seats go right up to the pitch or are they miles away? We'll have to get a few games in when you get over here - we could start the Jade Stadium chanting crew!
