Balloons to set Waikato skies aglow

Hot-air balloons will ascend before dawn, lighting up the sky in an Australasian first at next month's Balloons Over Waikato festival.

This year's special-shape balloons include Pumpkinhead, Off The Wall (returning for the second year), Aero Nut and Hazel Nut.

A fifth special shape is being kept under wraps until nearer the festival's start on April 11.

Another new event this year is the Hare and Hounds race as part of the OnGas Dawn Patrol, to be held on Thursday, April 12.
