The flights are updated every day.

I booked a flight from Wellington to Napier for $39....and because the return was the regular rate I did a bus trip on the way back for $20.

I've also booked one from Wellington to Kaitaia for $79 in a few weeks.


Basically these are flights that they haven't sold a lot of seats yet, so they offer them at really cheap rates. A lot of times they are odd days (like Tuesdays and Thursdays), but with a little bit of planning, you can make it happen. Some weekends/Fridays are also available.

The seats go pretty quick sometimes, and are only on there for a day (if they weren't grabbed), so you have to act quickly.

Great stuff, James! ? ?I'm sure a lot of foks will be interested in exploring more of NZ at those prices. ?Hope they keep it up.

Need to keep checking to see what's on offer, as the seats seem to be going very quickly.

Kiwis snap up flights

New Zealanders are snapping up cut-price flights to Australia, as airlines try to rally interest in transtasman routes.

Emirates sold out of tickets in its 48-hour "super sale" last night, a spokesman said. The airline offered return flights to Sydney from $304, Melbourne from $284 and Brisbane from $286, including taxes, surcharges and levies.

Air New Zealand yesterday added Australian flights to its cut-price Grab a Seat website, with Auckland-Sydney flights from $132 one way.

Have to be careful with those Grab a Seat bargains. They are usually only one way, which is very cheap, but then you have to get a full price return, which combined can work out more than if you just bought a return ticket in the first place. Excellent for those that can pack and leave last minute though as you can just wait around for a cheap one way back to your starting point!

Good to point that out, Taffy, as it would be easy to get sucked in by the excitement of cheap flights and not realise they're only one-way.
