    Default partnership interview questions

My wife applied for PR thru the partnership category about one year ago. We sent in the usual proofs of partnership stuff like bills, marriage license, photos, etc. Anyway, we got a letter today saying they want us to come in to the office for an interview next week. What sort of questions are they likely to ask? I tried the search, but only found skilled migrant category questions.

We're in Wellington by the way. My wife is Chinese and here on a work permit sponsored attached to her employer.

    Hi Robotnik!

The interview depends on how strongly they believe that you are a couple.

If they have doubts they will interview you in seperate rooms and ask you both the same questions and see how much of your answers match up.
Otherwise you are interviewed together and the officer asks questions like:

Who would usually do the grocery shopping?
    Who does the household?
What colour is your partners tooth brush?
What s your partners favourite perfume?
What are your plans for the future.. family etc?

But they can also ask how you protect when you have sex or similar
    personal questions.

Anything goes, they don't expect you to know everything about each other, so don't worry!
Officers are well trained so they will be able to see how you 2 interact together and that tells them if you are a couple or not!

Don't try too hard either, friends of mine who had been married for years had a huge fight on their way to their interview, when they walked in their officer said: you two are obviously married!

Just relax and you ll be fine!
    Good luck :)

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the tips. If I recall correctly, I read an article in the paper a year or so ago which said they've stopped asking really personal questions.

It shouldn't be a huge issue to prove our relationship I think, especially since we have 2 kids together.

Yes that could be quite possible!
    :)

Can I ask how long after you got allocated to a case officer you had to wait until you received the letter for your interview?

Not sure exactly, maybe 5 - 6 months. Is that a usual time to wait? I expect it varies between which NZIS office you lodge the application with.

I got my case officer assigned on the 30th April, less than 2months after lodging my application (under partnership same as your wife) and the letter from my officer said he will make his decision within 6months.

5-6 months seems a long time, but like you said depends on the branch location and how busy they are.

I guess it s a good sign that they invited you for an interview as they would have gone through all your paperwork and it would be one of the last steps, she might be very close to becoming a resident :)

    Good luck for the interview!!!

We actually lodged the application 12 months ago. My wife has been ringing the NZIS number every now and then for updates. They told her the application wass "in the pool" until around Xmas last year, when they told her it had been assigned and then that was it until yesterday when we got the letter to report for an interview.

    Default 5 weeks later

    Hi All

Just writing to say that my wife's application was accepted. Took them long enough though. Had to wait six weeks from the time we had the interview before they let us know.

So we got an acceptance letter and a request to pay a $300 migrant levy (bit of a rip off if you ask me). Btw, do they send you a visa sticker for your passport or do you have to send your passport in to get the sticker stuck on? The letter is not clear on this.

    Thanks!

Usually you have to send your passport in and it is returned with the stickers in there. I thought they would have asked for the passport by now.
