    Default Removal of Section 18A

I have section 18A as part of my PR. I know I have to work for my employer for 3 months before I can get it removed. What if I don't get round to getting it removed? I know I need a letter from my employer to confirm that I have worked for them for 3 months but I am changing jobs just after my 3 months are up. I am hoping that I can get a letter from them before I leave but if I can't what will happen if I don't get this section removed from my PR?

Hey, Nicky. I don't have any definitive knowledge about this, but thought I'd check in. I'm hoping that your current employer will supply the letter no matter what, and certainly hope that they can't legally deny it to you. Hang onto pay stubs, just in case! Best of luck.

I have asked HR to send me the letter - even though it is still a week away from the 3 months. I should get it after the 3 months is up. I don't think HR will worry that I have handed my notice in - at least I hope not.

    Hi Nicky.

Do you mind me asking what happened with this?

I'm in a similar situation and wondered if you ran into any difficulties?

    Thanks,

    Ben

Hi Ben, glad to say all went smoothly. I got the letter from HR, a couple of bank statements to show my wages being paid in and a couple of payslips too. I handed them all in with a covering letter and our passports to the immigration off ice in Chch and got them returned within a week. All completely painless.

Thanks Nicky, I've got my HR letter today, so will pop into Wellington branch next week and see if they'll oblige!

I just hope they aren;t fussy about my payslips being self-printed (they don't give us official pay slips at work....save the environment and all that!)

    Thanks again.
