Unhappy Medicals - more tests needed

We went to collect our medicals yesterday with the intention of submitting our ITA at NZ House afterwards. Before the medicals I was panicking that my waist would be too big or BMI too high but I was pleased that both these were ok. When we arrived to collect them the doctor went through mine & OH's and we were fine so we both took a sigh of relief. Then we were hit with the bombshell. Our daughter (who prides herself on never having had a day off school or college due to illness) had an area of calcification on her lung. The radiologist had written that this could be due to a previous case of TB. If she had had TB we would have know about it. She had her BCG when she was 13 and she was born and brought up in the UK. She has only ever been abroad once and that was to Spain when she was about 10. The doctor was good and said he knew it wasn't TB but it needs to be confirmed by a specialist. So we are booked in on Saturday for more tests (a cost of about ?260 was mentioned) with the specialist to confirm what we already know. The next thing is to find out what has caused this calcification and what treatment if any. This can be done through our GP, thankfully.

Once the specialist has confirmed it isn't TB then we can get the medicals cleared and submit our ITA.

If it's not one thing, it's another

Sheesh, Nicky. Just what you didn't want to happen. It's amazing what these medicals throw up. As you say, it'll be a lot of money to prove what you already suspect - money you could have put towards immigrating. Still, if it needs sorting and Jen will be the better for it, then it's good that something is being done about it.

Hopefully Saturday will clear it all up.

Not long got back from London. Tests were straight forward - just some more blood tests and a heaf test - to check for TB antibodies. This will be positive as she had her BCG 5 years ago. Get the results on Friday and then off to see the panel doctor who will hopefully sign off the medical so we can go to NZ house & submit our ITA . He did say that the small nodules could have been caused by a chest infection that she had (even a mild one) that then left these marks. They will not be a problem in the future and would not have given her any problems except for this. Still it did cost us ?160 for the blood tests - still have to pay the doctor!!!!!!
