I see you got application to study- is this only if you don't have residency or does everyone have to do that?

Be prepared for the expense you guys.
$200 each for work permits = $400
$200 each for applications to study (all kids you want in education) = $600
$400 online EOI
$1400 ITA
$300 each migrant levy if successful to a max of $1200
Meds $180 each Dr's checks = $900
X-rays $100 each 11 years and over = $400
Bloods $92 each 15 years and over = $282

Not cheap folksies and will make a serious dent in your capital, especially if you're not earning.

Hatter5 - nice to hear from you. Sorry we didn't catch up with you in Welly, we weren't there that long. Hope all is well with you and yours xx
we'll we won't have the expense of the study thingy as it's just the two of us - so hopefully it will be a bit cheaper for us - have they indicated how long it'll take for the work visa's to come through

Good news for you, Dawn. I hope things continue to go smoothly, and the lucre starts to come in soon.

Thank s Selch!

Beth, all kids have to fill in these applications to study. They are the documents that class you as a domestic student so that you don't have to pay international fees. We've had to apply for one for each of our kids.

An interesting catch though, the domestic student category only applies to primary and secondary education on a work permit. That means that if you have any kids 16 and over who will be attending either college or university (i.e. tertiary education) they will not be classed as a domestic student and will have to pay international fees until or unless you are granted residency.

We are crossing our fingers that our residency comes through before Lauren starts university next March

Welwynrose, work permits can take anything bewteen 30-60 days but I've heard from people on here of them taking much less than that. The day after we put our applications in someone emailed to inform Gary that he omitted to include his work contract and could he bring it in asap, she phoned again the next day to remind him again although he had dropped it off by then. So, it would seem that they had at least looked at it the following day, tis makes us think positive things are happening in NZIS. I take back all my comments about them being bleak slaves!!
