Quite a complicated situation indeed, so I hope it'll work out OK for you in the end. If you're shown to have been symptom free all this time, there's hope that your little girl will grow up the same way. Here's hoping for the best outcome. Please keep us posted.

Ill definitely keep you posted - I have trawled the internet for a similar case and so far have not found anything! Which is quite frustrating.

You never know there might be someone one day someone in a similar situation!!

As they say 'Where's there's life there's hope'. At least you haven't had a resounding 'No' back from them, which they could have said quite quickly. Would be nice if your case officer could give you a bit more info on what the hold up is.

Fingers are still crossed.

Default Update

Hi there,

What a can of worms!

Right so for all those that have been following this;

Our daughters medical was still with the medical peoples, till Friday last week when they came back to us saying that they wanted "more information". They wanted genetic tests and more importantly a prognosis.

We are actaullly in New Zealand and dealing with the NZIS here, currently for our residency. My daughters medical problem have been officially diagnosed (given a name) since we have been here in NZ. Anyway, as we are on 1 year work visas we do not quailify for any health care assistance and have had to pay for everything ourselves - which is expensive if your earning a NZ wage! So we looked into the genetic tests and found them to be $2000.00 + for each of us that would need one done. (we just cant afford that)

Regarding the prognosis, we have seen specialists in the UK (Alder Hey and here in Auckland and Palmerston North) these people are the best in the field and NONE would offer a prognosis as our daughter is still a baby. (I would like to add at t his point that she is fit, healthy, happy, starting to walk, babbling everything that a normal 14 month does and has no symptoms)

When our case officer told my husband that more information was needed he explained to the case office that they had all our information and there was nothing more we could provide. Our case office went away and has spoken to her superior and we have now since today (Thursday) gone straight to medical waiver, we are currently waiting on a result for this.

The medical assessor had not written off our case, and really looked, just a shame that they couldn't provide a yes or no.

I shall let you know the out come when we hear... Fingers crossed.

Default Some Good News!!!!

RIGHT...... Its about time for an update!!!

We have had news..... AND its good

Eva my daughter has passed!!! The medical assessor thought that she would be little risk to the NZ economy. The medical assessor thought her a fit healthy normal child!! All is well with my both myself and son (though I had to redo my bloods due to an elevated ALT level, but that's normal now and not a problem)

So, we are now waiting for immigration to give the thumbs up and approve our residency. Our immigration officer, told us the good news about our daughter a couple of days ago, she has been a real rock for us!!

Anyway, after a year and half of waiting, with lots and lots of gloom and doom there is life at the end of that tunnel, so dont give up and dont panic to anyone in a situation like ours!!

If it helps, here are some personal tips that I think really helped our case and get a good decision;

1. Supply all the information you can ask you doctor to write a letter. The better the letter the better your case, though we found that it should STATE CLEARLY these things, you letter should be an "expression of risk"

A = Prognosis, if possible - if not then ask them to specify why.
B= Possible Treatment needed - if none is needed them get them to state this.
C= If you are LOW risk - If you are low risk, ask them to use this phrase
D= !!PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT!! Get the doctor to mainly think(when writing your letter to immgration) "What is likely to happen in the next 4 years".

If you look at the guidelines stated by NZIS, you'll see this is how they asses the cases.

2. We also found that submitting letters from our work places, showing support and emphasizing our skills and qualifications. The children's childcare and schools also wrote letters of support. Our daughters childcare also submitted her childcare diary for them to look at.

Our dossier must have its own filing cabinet!!

I really think though, that anyone who might read this, that is having trouble. Panicking with the possibility that it all might fall flat, really is not to give up. We had an extremely tough and complicated case, and its finally coming to the end!!

If anyone wants to contact me personally to ask questions please feel free.

It's taken quite a while but you've got there.

What a relief and that must give some encouragement to others. Yay!

I spoke in some detail to NZIS today and discussed our daughters situation.

I was told this; We probably would quailify for a medical waiver if;

1. We were considered good characters and would contribute to the NZ ecconomy.
2. That our skills where considered a shortage or of significant expertise.
3. If we agreed to have possible (not definate) private health care for our daughter.
4. That our daughter is in good health and requires no operations or is of really bad health, in the next 4 years or so.

So for anyone else out there, who is dealing with anything like this; dont give up!! Good luck. I shall post on here what happens with our application for future reference.

Good luck. Wish you all the best.
