Default English groups

Hello again

This may sound like a mad question but does anybody know if there is an English group that you can join that provides extra points for immigration. The only reason I'm asking this is that we were talking to our friends who immigrated to NZ 12 years ago and they mentioned that when they applied they joined an English group which gave them extra points for the application. As we have 130, I thought that every little helps!!

Waiting to be informed of case worker - so it may be some time before we have some good news. I'm going to start looking for jobs soon anyway just to see what we can get!!

Hi Millsy

Personally, I can't say that I've ever come across such a thing as 'an English group' let alone being awarded extra points for joining one. I do a fair bit of digging around research-wise regarding immigration issues including on the NZIS immigraton site and have never heard or seen anything like this. Perhaps it was something that was kicking about at the time your friends were on the move.

Glad to see you're plans are still progressing well.

I know what you mean - it does all sound a bit weird!! There was a welsh group as well apparently which gave you points if you joined!!!! But I think it was in the days of old !!

Never mind - it's worth a try!!

Default Re: English groups

I was curious enough to do a little checking around as I remember from my childhood here that there were 'English groups', however they were social groups and nothing to do with immigration.

I did find out, however, that in the 1990's those potential immigrants who had an iffy knowledge of the English language could still immigrate if they pre-purchased English lessons - going to 'English groups'. Not much use to anyone, I'm afraid. [smiley=icon_neutral.gif]
