Hello!! Just updating you all on my progress. Haven't heard from the FBI yet so...........have gone for it and booked one way tickets to NZ for me and the 2 boys (hubby can't come yet) and bought Australian visas and one way tickets to Brisbane which we may/maynot use!

This is it! We leave on Dec 13th from Heathrow to Dubai to Singapore to Brisbane to Auckland (cheapest flights due to time of year and might break up monotony for kids).

So am very excited, but still lots to do!

Guess you are flying with Emirates then?! Hopefully you wont get the same flight that Welshgirl's cousin had when she came with them. Excellent flight and service, but they omitted the Singapore stop and did a 13 hour flight direct to Oz from Dubai!

Still, she said the flight, food and service were superb, so you'll be ok :icon_biggrin:

Great stuff Fisheress. As ever I admire your bravery and hope everything goes VERY smoothly.

Good idea on the flight plan, Idon't have the patience to keep landing and taking off. We're seriously thinking of going direct now with the hope that the kids sleep most of the way.

Does that mean you'll make the x-mas bbq? Wish I could. :icon_frown:

Safe flight, Fisheress. I'm with Stevey on the take off and landing stuff, plus killing time in the airport. However we've only done the 12 or 14-hour flight from the US, but never so long as 24 hours straight. It's exhausting, but I usually find that a 2 or 3 hour nap sets me straight. I recommend that you get some earplugs - they help soften the noise, even when not sleeping.

Well done on getting this far, Fisheress. If it is Emirates you?re going with, they are good. We?ve only flown short haul with them, Dubai to Kuwait, and found them excellent. We were stuck waiting for pushback from our docking station (sounds like a spaceship) and there was a delay. There was no a/c on and it was stiflingly hot. The flight attendants were all soaked to the skin with perspiration, but not once did they let the smiles drop from their faces and they continued with their work as if it was normal. Had to laugh at the Arab sitting next to me though. We were approaching Kuwait and he started feverishly tweaking at his gutra (headcloth), giving it a great amount of attention (as they do) and using the seatback TV screen as a mirror. He was so intent on getting his gutra just right (they are unbelievably vain) that he hadn?t noticed he?d got food from his meal all down the front of his immaculate white dishdasha. I didn?t have the heart to tell him, not that he?d have entertained me anyway as a mere female.

At least Dec. 13th isn?t a Friday. Hope you have a great flight and the boys enjoy their new experiences.

Thanks everyone!!! There has been a change of plan though! As hubby rang to sort out the Australian visa/tickets, it looked bleak that we could do it this way! After messing ourselves that the NZ flights were already booked, I rang my case officer to ask if she could possibly write a formal letter for immigration. She wasn't in.........and in the mean time my FBI check arrived!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks positive that I will fly out on 13th with residency!!!!!!!!!!! Yippeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
