Panel Doctors north west (England)!

We live in Lancashire and could do with some advice on doctors etc. I think there may be one in Manchester which is 30 miles away cos a work mate used one over there to get over to Australia, but dont have any details. We have just been selected from the pool so I assume we will hear from "them" in a few weeks. Also does anyone know if the police check is done by us or do they do that, I am thinking that we could send off for this fairly soon to save some time.
