    Unhappy Lonely in Christchurch

    Hi
My name is Alison. I am from the UK. Lived in ChCh from 1999 to 2002 and then returned to the UK.
    I have 3 children aged 5, 7 and 9.
I have been back in ChCh for two years and I am finding it hard to make good friends.
Knew it would be tough as have lived here before but I have got to the point of wanting to move on and that is no good!
I go to Grace Vineyard church which is nice but I need some nice friends with a good sense of humour.
    Anyone out there????????????????????????????????????????

Hi Alison and welcome to MTNZ. Sorry to hear things haven't quite worked out as you hoped with regard to new friendships. Is there no one you can pal up with who has children going to the same school/s as yours? That is one way that many women can make friends. Have you tried approaching them rather than waiting for them to approach you? A few words and a friendly smile can go a long way to opening doors. Are you on your own or do you have a partner who could take care of the children while you go out? My thinking was that perhaps you could search out clubs or groups of people in your area with similar interests and hobbies who you would have something in common with, which is a good start. Cooking, painting, handicrafts, gardening, books, sport or something more exotic?

Let's hope someone on here can connect with you and help absorb you into the community.

    Hi Alison,

We're in Christchurch .. and have a nearly 6 year old son, and 3 year old daughter. Drop me a PM if you fancy a coffee and a natter (with or without the kids),

Someone with a huge chip on their shoulder against immigrants or a rather bitter grudge against a particlar immigrant going by other postings from the same member which I have since removed.

Thanks MB - we don't need comments like those here.

The ironic thing about it is, all kiwis stem from either the European Settlers, or Maoris - both of which are immigrants themselves!
