    Default Rural South Africa

Hi from Smithfield in rural SA. We are also trying to get organised to come and live in NZ. I've already had a consultant tell me (for a mere NZ$250) that if I get a job offer then I'll have 125 points. As usual the job offer is the sticky part. Been gazing at SEEK for weeks with no real success.
Still, Dawn's post about the Kiwi's liking immigrants with the guts to just get over there and do it was very inspiring.
I'm a UK citizen with permanent residence in SA, de facto married to Sue, a South African citizen. At 54 years old, the clock is ticking. I'm worried that I picked the wrong time to do this.
I've got so many questions to ask.
So hello from Africa, and I'll see you on the other threads.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum. Good to have you with us. Have you already started the immigration process or are you still waiting in the wings? There is a cut off point for applying age-wise, so let's hope all goes well for you.

It can often be difficult to find a job when you're not already in NZ. It seems to depend on what industry you're in. Many people have more success once they are in the country and can meet with potential employers face to face as they can see that you are serious about moving there and not just toying with the idea.

    Good luck with your plans.

    Hi Mother Bear.
Thanks for the welcome. I know that I have to have applied before my 56th birthday. So that gives me about 18 months - don't want to leave it to the last minute though.
I had an assessment done by a consultant and that's as far as I have got. Planning to come over and look for a job, so I have been collecting work references, police clearance and other paper work.
I have a visa question so I'll post it in the appropriate forum.
