    Default Hello from South Africa

So I guess this is where it all starts!!

I have had a look at some of the things the people say about NZ and I canít help but be amazed about what i hear about the people and the country! I have taken the first big step and have booked my plane ticket and will be arriving in a monthís time. That was the easy part!!

Now I have to get down to business and get all the necessary documentation and all the info that I can get to prepare myself for the things to come!

Let me give you a bit of a background on who I am.

    My career:
Early in my life I realized that I wanted to get ahead in life! So I started by doing my final two years of school in one year to be 'one year ahead' of my peers. I then studied Business management and computing skills to get the basics for any career path that I would follow. As fate would have it I ended up doing computer programming (same as my mom) and have been doing it ever since. I am currently employed by BMW South Africa as a SAP ABAP programmer and have been with the company for 8 months.

    My personal life:
I love water-sports (wakeboarding) and if I have to be honest Iím an adrenalin junkie! I have also been part of the community policing forum in our area and have been actively involved with helping the police with a lot of operations in our area.

Most probably it was this time spent with the police that made me realize what is really going on in this country and made me want to go and look for better opportunities elsewhere!

And here I am! Eager and excited to experience the NZ way of living!

I have figured out so far that for the first step, the police clearance is VERY important and that at some stage Iím going to need a IRD number. Just donít know the details yet!
Can any of you help me understand all these things and get my ducks in a row?

Thank you for the great forum!!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Vrugte and welcome.

The first step, if you want to live permanently in NZ, is to determine which visa you're going to be able to get. This usually depends on what job skills and qualifications you have. Have a read through this previous thread to check whether you can apply via the Skilled Migrant Category. If not, there are other visas you can get, but they could mean you'd have to get a job offer and work for a couple year before you get residency.

    Default Thank you

Thank you for the reply MB!

I definitely donít want to go home after 3 months!
So Iím leaving to stay, if you know what I mean.

I have done the points calculation and my points ad up to 110.
That is excluding one or 2 of my courses that i studied that looks like it is not recognized by NZ.
If i understand correctly you only need 100 points to qualify?

My skills are listed on the long term shortage list.
And i have the qualification and experience to back it up!
    Is that good news?

You can apply with 100 points, but it would probably take quite a long time to be processed. INZ tend to take people with the most points first and then work their way down to those who have less. If you wanted to speed things up and boost your points, getting a job offer would be helpful .

    Default Here at last!

    Hi all!

I have done it! Arrived in NZ 26th of July, took 2 weeks holiday!! What a beautiful country!!!!!!

And I got my work permit!

Is there anyone that can help me with the PR applications?

My girlfriend(19) is here with her parents. Her dad has a work permit and her mom has a work permit under her dads name.
    1. Can she apply for a works permit under her dads name aswell???
    2. When applying for ressidence- can she be included under her parents?
    3. What would be the best way to approach her residence status or do application for PR?

If anyone can help- please do!!!

    Thank you!
    Kind Regards

Hey Vrugte, just wanted to say hi from another South African!

My partner was also involved with the police in SA and is waiting for our PR to come through so he can join here.

    Hi Tanya

Thanks for the message! I think it must be a great honour to work for the police in NZ! Nothing like back in SA!
All of the best for your partner! I spoke to a policeman here and he said that they appreciate the SA guys coming over!

So how long have you been in NZ?

Hope you have a great day!
