Hi JustNoZi,

Just look on it as a means to an end. I, too, was terrified of flying, but not of the plane journey itself, it was the thought of flying on my own for the first time. Negotiating big airports and finding my way around. Worrying about getting on the wrong plane (which I thought had come to pass when I was in the air and heard the pilot giving the flight time to Bahrain when I was actually heading for Kuwait. Luckily Bahrain was a stop on the way to Kuwait, which I hadn't realised. )

My stomach had been churning over for quite a while beforehand, so I got myself some Rescue and found it just took the edge off my nerves and quietened the butterflies. The effect was so subtle that it was some while later that I realised I felt calmer and more settled. No unpleasant side effects either.

You'll have a lot to look forward to in NZ and this alone will give you plenty to think about on the flight there. Get yourself a good book about NZ, which should be all the more interesting and exciting as you will be on your way there.

All the best.

Our father had My brother (Stuart), then moved to Canada and I came along. I have Dual citizenship. A friend of mine said that my dual citizenship may no longer be valid ... :009: ?? is this possible. We want to move to Napier in 2yrs. any thoughts or suggestions would be great :006:

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum.

Am I reading it right that you were born in Canada? If so, I take it that your dual citizenship is NZ/Canadian? And would your father's nationality be New Zealander?

Lots of questions, all leading nowhere at the moment, I'm afraid. I'm just trying to clarify the state of play before I do any further research into your question. I'd have thought that, if you have citizenship of a country, you'd keep that unless you do something dastardly and get yourself thrown out, but I may be wrong if it's to do with dual citizenship. I haven't heard of a citizenship 'expiring' though.

Thanks for the quick response Mother Bear. Yes you are correct my father is a Kiwi, born in Wellington. When he came to Canada in 1968 he was granted landed immigrant status. When I was born in 1971 he filed me as a citizen of NewZealand. I never bothered to pursue any more information until now. My brother told me that with my existing skills, and the fact that I have NZ citizenship I could leave canada, move to Napier and get a job. I have no written documentation supporting my citizenship, however my brother looked me up with your consulate and indicated I am registered. What I would like to know is what the best course of action is for me to get papers and a passport for NZ, so that when we get to Napier I can have a bottle of wine, a swim, then head out and find a job :icon_lol:

Thanks again

hi MotherBear,

thanks for the advice, i feel like a true movetonz member now. been reading your advice on here for ages and thought and was one of the things that got me back - a goldmine of info. cheers

anyways, yeah i actually love all that 'exploring' of new places, trying to navigate, find places etc so i think that will actually help me. the excitement of getting and being there will hopefully be stronger than any fear.

still gonna get some resolve tho' and herbal remedy but no alcohol

and yeah, i reckon a good book on my new home would do the trick.

thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words, JustNoZi. Hope all goes well for you and don't worry about the nerves. It's only natural and remember that quite a number of other people on your flight will also be nervous for one reason or another. Just keep thinking ahead at what's waiting for you at the other end.

Do you know which airline you're flying with and whether they have seatback screens? If they do, then you'll have plenty of choice of movies or TV programmes to keep you occupied, if you can figure out how to use them. We had them and thought there was something wrong because the films we were choosing didn't come up. Instead it always defaulted to a lengthy advert for the airline, which was darned annoying. Seems it was obligatory to run this first before you got to view the movie, unless we could manage to fast forward through the ad (not an easy task)

hi MotherBear,

yeah, thatll be the thought on my mind - my destination. have a good rad about my new country too. wow, i'm getting way ahead of myself here, just hope all the application stuff goes well.

airline, well i think Air New Zealand via San fran/LA i think, that sounds the way i'd like to go. Singapore Airlines seems good for price but i wanna head in a westerly direction. hope you eventually got that movie thing sorted and when i book my flight i'll be back asking you for instructions. :icon_biggrin:

thanks again, have a good w/end.

Default Introduce Yourself!

Hello :006:

I've posted a couple of bits and pieces on this forum already but just realised I haven't introduced myself. How rude of me !

My name is Stu and my wife, Amanda, and I are planning to move out to New Zealand on a 23 month Working Holiday Visa in May\June time. Depending on how we settle in we will either move back to the UK at the end of the visa or apply for residency. As such we're currently struggling to decide on what to do with our dog. Should he stay or should he go !

We visited New Zealand last October and completley fell in love with the country and it's people. For the last couple of years we've wanted to move somewhere different but nowhere had ticked all of the boxes until we visited NZ. We have friends in Opotiki which helps as it's really handy to have a contact over there as we get everything planned and sorted for our move.

So .... hello again :006:
