Default Introduce your self..... well here goes

Hi there... I'm Cairen a 33 year old single mum with a beautiful little girl who's just turned 6.. I'm looking to emigrate to New Zealand and would welcome any guidance and assistance you can give me..

I currently work as a Finance and IT Trainer for the UK Civil Service.. Before joining the Civil Service I was a manager in retail for eight years.
I'm not fussed about continuing in my current line of work as I am willing to try anything..
Its more important to me that I get to bring my daughter up in a beautiful country and give her as many opportunities as I can..

Please anyone feel free to offer advice etc...

Default Introduce Yourself!

Hi and Welcome!

You've chosen an awesome country in which to raise your daughter. Our daughter is 5 and is thriving here ::): .

You have a few options available to you to get over here (and be allowed to STAY over here!), but obviously lots of things to think about first. Excuse me asking, but what is the situation with your daughters dad? This is something to bear in mind if you are separated, as you could possibly have a lengthy legal process to be allowed to bring her here permanently, unless of course he gives his permission voluntarily.

Anyway, sorry to put a dampener on your enthusiasm! There are plenty of members on here who will be more than happy to help you. Ask anything - there are no 'stupid' questions. If you can think of it, ask it - we've all probably thought the same question!

Have you ever been to NZ before? Any particular reason you've chosen it?

Default Hey Welshgirl

Hi

Thanks for your feedback... I am very lucky to have sole parental responsibility for my daughter.. her dad has no access and luckily I have already checked with my solicitor about taking her overseas... and there are no restriction :)

I have lots of friends who come from NZ, my best friend comes from Nelson which is the area that I would love to be able to go to however I am happy to work anywhere.. I also have old family friends that moved there about 20 years ago.. I have looked around and feel that it is a beautiful place.. i really like the people I have met.

Default Just Looking

Hi!

At the moment my husband and I are considering relocating to NZ (at least until we get a new president - kidding). My husband is an electrical engineer into renewables (hydro & wind power) and the work is rather scarce here in the US. He is going to fly for an interview, so I thought that I'd go on a fact finding mission. The pictures of the country are lovely and the politics are refreshingly progressive . I think that by your standards we would be considered "alternative lifestylers," as we choose to lead a natural lifestyle and eat mainly organic foods.

My progress:

Checking into importing my two cats (heavily regulated)
Checked into the requirements for adopting a child (need PR)
Checked out the basics
Still have a few questions (availability of natural foods?)

I'm enjoying the posts so far and hope to learn a lot more!

Hi,

Seems like you've already been doing a good bit of research!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, and let me put your mind at rest and tell you that organic foods are readily available in most supermarkets and smaller stores, or you can even grown your own veggies!

Welcome to the forum :icon_biggrin:

Default Hello

Hello there!
I've been reading the posts on this forum for a while and decided to come out into the light and say hi :icon_biggrin:. I live in Thailand with my husband (we're from Romania) and we've been thinking about emigrating to NZ for some time now. The only way we could do it though is through studying there for a qualification and then find a job which would enable us to gather all the points necessary to apply for residency. Now I'm thinking about what should I study in order to be able to find a job afterwards (it would have to be something I enjoy as well). What chances do I have to find work after a 1 year study (a certificate)?

Hi Nicola,

Welcome to the forum. Your chances of getting a job would probably depend on what subjects you studied. A lot of employers are looking for people with experience, so that might cause difficulties. If you are hoping to study in New Zealand, at least you will be in a position to meet prospective employers face to face. Applying for jobs when you are outside NZ can be quite difficult if you aren't in one of the much sought after professions.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
