Hi Chadmat,

I'm studying too... I'm doing a professional doctorate in Clinical Psychology  I've got 6 months left before I (hopefully) graduate and I really can't wait... I am currently writing up my doctoral thesis which is due in 3 weeks so am pretty much chained to my desk until it's written

I decided to stay in the UK and get a qualification that would mean I can work in a field that is on the skills shortage list, with the hope that I would then get enough points to be able to get PR and emigrate to NZ... gives me something to look forward to and work towards and make all this studying worthwhile :icon_razz:

I haven't yet been to NZ either but am hoping to make a trip out there next year... and can't wait as I've heard so much about it

We are both hope that the more skills we have to fall back on the easier it will be to find a job when we do emigrate!

Anyone else studying?
We try to be nice - it's much more pleasant to be here when people play well together.

My dear old Da went back to school after retirement, and got degrees in both computer science & statistics. I must have botten my obsession to detail from him. Your fields might not make for an exciting TV series, but they are fascinating in their own right.

Joinery - is that pipes or wood or what? Every so often I see want ads for joiners, but I don't quite know what they do.

I also like being a Jack (or Jill) of many trades/skills. It keeps me from getting too bored, and does help with finding work.

Joinery is like woodwork I guess, it is something he enjoys at it fits in with his painting and decorating, so he'll be able to professionally put on skirtingboards, hanging doors and fit kitchen worktops or false walls etc.

It is the basic tasks rather than the build cupboards etc. although knowing him that will be next on the list!

Well good luck, I'm sure you won't need it though!

I was hoping to go next year also, but have decided to go once my degree has finished to help keep me focused.

Hello!

We just wanted to say hello, we just found your website today which have made for a great read and loads of information.

Our current situation is my husband has a job offer as a mechanical/electrical fitter with Fitzroy yachts in New Plymouth, Taranaki and we will be going across as my husband being the main applicant on a WTR visa and with myself and our 7 year old son going through on a Family stream work visa and student visa respectively. We are at the point of being about to send our actual visa applications in as have got all our police checks, medicals etc back now so are just checking and double checking and triple checking our application forms to make sure they are correct hehe

Our sale of property is going through as well and we should be looking at about 5 weeks till that completes so which should hopefully means once we get the visas through we will hopefully be in the position to arrange dates/flights etc pretty quickly and be ready to start our new life sometime July or August all going well /crosses fingers very tightly

I am busy reading through everything so will try not to barrage you with too many questions

Hi Alison,

A big welcome to the forum to you and your family

You sound like you've pretty much got things in hand with regards to your move - congratulations on your husband's job offer! I know there's a lot of paperwork and I know what you mean about triple-checking things, I remember it well lol. You'll find that the time will go really quickly between now and the time to leave, so get yourself organised and try not to worry too much - it's all one big adventure

In the meantime, have a read through the forum and if you have any questions, ask away. Nothing is too trivial and all questions are valid questions! It may be that you just need a bit of moral support or just a good laugh, and we're good for that too .

Hi Alison,

from me, too. Good to 'see' a new face on here.

You seem to have everything well under control, so let's hope for a speedy conclusion to your house sale next.

Don't forget that, if everyone only reads through the forum and doesn't ask questions or make observations, there would be nothing left to answer or comment on and that makes for a dull forum. So, ask away or, if you just want to chat about something in particular, that's fine too.

Congratulations on your hubby's job offer. Yachts? Sounds very nautical and idyllic. Any free samples?

Default Hi from Christchurch

HI ya!

Maybe you are moving/just moved to Christchurch, or maybe you are just wanting to make some new friends?

I am 28 years old, my boyfriend is 31, (been together 6 years! Both kiwis) just seeing if there are any other females or couples out there that just want a friend to chat with, go for a cuppa, dinner, movies or clubbing.

I work at a real estate company in administration, love meeting new people (have met a few online now!), fave music ? 80?s, Robbie Williams, Madonna, U2, Jack Johnson, dance, like travelling, (went on a roadtrip in USA for 4 weeks), lived in Canada for a year, cooking, watching rugby, going out for coffee, movies.

While living in Canada I had only couple of friends, and found it really tough & lonely being in a new city, so I thought I would come on here and see if anyone is in the same boat as I was there and looking for a new friend ? (different when you are at school you always meet new people) ? I came on here to meet up with people and if we have similar interests I look forward to a great friendship!
