Default Introduce Yourself!

Welcome Johnbosco. I do believe all of LOTR was filmed in NZ. Unfortunately I never met an ent in the wild, though. If you are interested in learning about Maori culture, and can find the DVDs, try Whale Rider (uplifting) and Once Were Warriors (depressing). But both are good for insight into the Maori situation. Am not sure what is available for learning about modern pakeha (non-Maori) culture, but The Piano is a historical film set in colonial times.

NZ is a lovely place, and the people are generally open and friendly. Beware though, if you are of African blood, you may run into prejudice, especially out in the rural areas. Sadly many folks resent non-whites moving into "their" country.
Good luck with immigration, and welcome to the forum! :006:

Default Hello...

Hi...I've gone and done this all back to front - jumping in with questions before properly introducing myself. I'm Jenny - (cue the unusual surname ......and laughing) - Drinkwater, easy to spell but difficult to live with. Currently living in Glasgow working as a Fashion Buyer, desperate to escape to NZ as soon as possible. It's great to read people's chat and advice/experiences as I've never been to NZ but have always just felt like it's going to be the right place for me...maybe a long lost tribe of Drinkwaters awaits me?

Default Intros

Hi, I'm new to all this chat room business...so be gentle. I'm Scottish but I live in Bristol and I'm hoping to move to NZ this time next year with my partner - who is lucky enough to have a British and NZ passport. So that bit should be easy - right? Can I ask if anyone can give me advice on whether it is best to apply for residency under the Family Quota from the UK or on arrival in NZ? I am a student just now and funds are TIGHT. We have loads of people we can stay with in NZ and I understand that the admin fees are about half the price if you apply from NZ...anyone know how long that would take?

Also - did anyone ever find out how much it is to take a cat? I phoned British Airways the other day and they estimated it would be about ?430 to take a cat as cargo. Anyone have any other experiences?

Thanks for listening!![/img]

Hi!

Welcome to the forum :icon_biggrin:

Fees are certainly cheaper in NZ for applications, si it's up to you where you'd rather be when submitting your application. Family residency applications can take some time, so it may be worth considering getting a partnership work permit, as they take 60 days maximum to process. That way you can at least work while waiting for a residency application.

For info on shipping out the kitty cat, take a look in the 'Making the Move' section. There is a good post there about shipping pets.
