Thanks for the welcome.

My brother is in Broomfield, Christchurch. He only moved there before christmas from Invercargil. He went out nearly 4yrs ago after being offered a job as an ag mechanic.

Don't think I'll have any probs finding work cos I am currently a lorry driver and also have my qualifications as a ag mechanic as well.

Default Introduce Yourself!

Hi...or should I now be training myself to say Ki Ora?

I'm Marie, the hubby is Andy and we're going to make the move! Not quite sure when yet as hubby has to finish his 22 years with the RN first, though thats approaching really fast now (December!)

I've already asked a question and got a great reply...Thank You!

Glad to meet you all.

[smilie=welcome.gif] Marie. So are you a fire fighter, an arsonist or some other flame-related personage? C'mon, out with it!

OK, Selchie. You hold her down and I'll get the thumb screws. Welshgirl can shine the light in her eyes.

[color=violet:c53bd26506]Well, it is a different sort of welcome. You can't say we're always consistent (read 'boring') on here.[/color:c53bd26506]

Dang my secret is out.....scrambles around trying to hide her Superhero Cape (wonders whether there's import tax on that!)

Seriously though, the name comes from being married to a firefighter, hubbys profession in the RN for the last 22 years.....and probably one of the main reasons we want to move to NZ. He has beeen pretty disillusioned with the UK since the fireman strikes, he was one of the servicemen providing cover, he got fed up with 2 things:

1. Everytime it was reported on the news the media made a great fuss about the 'unqualified' firefighters - his 22 years of aviation and domestic firefighting count for nothing (and he obviously wasn't the only one qualified)

2. He got talking to a civilian firefighter who was on strike and he had 7 years firefighting experience and was on a bigger annual salary!

So sorry I'm not a Superhero (except in the eyes of my kids), nor an arsonist....just a plain old RN firefighters wife

PLAIN...OLD....WIFE!!!! Marie, who are you trying to kid? To have been a wife for 22 years makes you neither plain nor old and definitely (NOTICE THAT STEVEY - I SPELLED IT CORRECTLY) a superhero!!!! :023:

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Firegirl!!!

Welshgirl, you make her a costume for when she arrives in NZ, you know the type of thing, spandex and sequins but no cape!! Have you seen The Incredibles? We'll soon have her on the front page!!!!

Whoops! Should have been a little clearer on the marriage front. I've only been married for 12 years to the current hubby (I say current to keep him on his toes!) We've been together for 19 years, so he'd already been a sailor for a couple of years by the time I met him.

Another reason to move....we'd both like jobs where we can see each other occasionally! For the last 7 years he's been posted to bases away from our home, I could have followed him around the country but I was bought up in that kind of 'mobile' environment and wanted something different for our lil man. Also I wanted to develop my career as well (selfish ain't I?)

Thanks again all for the welcome :icon_biggrin:
