    Default Hello from Ireland

    Hi all,
Thought we'd join here to answer some of the many questions were sure to have before we do the big move.

Were a married couple with 4 kids, planning to move to NZ in late 2013, when the eldest finishes school.

I (Rob) am a master in the merchant navy and she (Bess) will be a child psycologist by the time we move.

Hi both, welcome aboard . Guess it's going to be a major move for you with 4 kids in tow, but NZ is pretty child-friendly so they shouldn't have a problem settling. Ask away if you have any questions.

Thanks Motherbear, the move is to, hopefuly, give the kids a more secure future.

The move is going to be kinda epic, with the kids, 3 dogs, 2 campers, 12 surf, windsurf and SUP boards and quite alot of clothes

Wow - you'll need a very big container for all that!!! We made the move with 3 kids (14,16 & 19) and 3 dogs. Came back to UK but planning to return about the same time as you. Welcome aboard and good luck with it all.

Very true! Until recently we had 2 cats that we've moved around the world a bit and we call them our 'Million dollar cats' because of the horrendous expense each time we moved. Now, sadly, we only have 1 cat left so half the price.

It cost us more to ship the dogs than it did for flights for 5 of us and our container. Then we flew them all the way back - as MB says - million dollar animals.

The number of people who have said to us 'Can't you find someone to take your cats off your hands, then?' They obviously don't understand how much some of us love our pets . IMO if you take on pets, you need to be committed to them and not just pass them on to anyone who will have them or, as we've often seen, just dump them and leave them to fend for themselves. Having said that, I do appreciate that some animals either aren't fit to travel or there is some other genuine reason why they have to be left behind .
