    Default occupation question

Before I build any hopes up on being able to start the whole nz process my main stumbling block is this..

My husband has nearly 20 years experience in his occupation (packaging designer using artios cad system) but no 'professional' qualifications. Apart from a City and Guilds certificate from 20 years ago, he has gained all of his knowledge via work experience.

Does this mean that we have no chance and would not be taken seriously.

Is there anyone that has successfully emigrated in the same situation?

I'm in the uk and would appreciate any help.

All is not lost . If you look down the list of occupations on here, see if you can find your husband's job title to see if it's classed as skilled. You can then click on the SM7.10.1 link and it tells you in there that some job skills are acceptable with work experience only if it's over a certain number of years and 20 years is a good lot of work experience to have under your belt.

He could try looking for a job with an accredited employer and going the Work to Residence route.

It is tricky to get into NZ long term if you haven't got a skilled occupation that NZ needs. He could get a job offer and apply for a work visa, but that would only give you temporary residence in NZ. Work visas/permits are a bit of a hot potato at the moment because of the flood of kiwis returning home to take up a lot of the spare jobs which would normally have been done by migrants.
