    Default Compensation?

While looking for jobs in my field (statistics) I have come across their pay grade and salary but I am unfamiliar with the how to find out what those grades and salary ranges are in actual terms. The job description says Pay Group 2, Pay Band 1 or 2 (I realize 1 is lower). Does anyone know the actual pay scale that I would be considered for? I hate to just come out and ask the employer but considering I am not familiar with NZ pay and do need to consider compensation issues to determine what type of living we will have on that pay scale. Any advice or does anyone know? Would it be rude to request that information from the HR rep? Last thing I want is to have it appear that I am in it for the money but it *is* a consideration for living expenses and immigration.

Nothing wrong with asking them to quote the pay in simple terms or the actual amount. They should be able to tell you what amount those pay bands or groups are.

There is no way you can take a job not knowing what it actually pays.
