    Default Immigration - where/when/what

    Hi guys,

I'll try keep this brief (not sure if this is right forum?!)

Me, my partner and our son where looking at immigrating to either: New Zealand or Australia.

My mum lives in OZ, as do 5 of my cousins And my sister has lived in NZ for 2 years now.

We think we found a visa for Australia. but also looking into NZ too... not made our mind up yet!

I couldn't help but notice - the OZ immigration website is much more detailed then the NZ one? Getting the right info seems to be quite difficult!

Basically - I've just finished my University Degree - BSc Hons - (Social Work).

The only experience I have is through the UNI.

My partner would be travelling on my visa as will my son.

If NZ skilled visa's are the same as OZ - (that means you need work experience!?)...

I found that in OZ if I got sponsored by an Employer - I could get a visa (if accepted!)

Is this the same in NZ? Or are the visa's slightly more relaxed?!

    Thanks guys in advance! :)

Ah, I've caught up with a bit more of your story since replying to you on your other thread. My goodness, you do have a few family members downunder. Whether you finally choose Oz or NZ, you won't be very far from family.

Being able to apply for PR in NZ depends largely on how many points you score. You need to have a minimum of 100 to qualify and you can read some more about points here.

Whereas I don't think work experience is the be all and end all, you do score some vital points for it, which might make or break your chance of making it. There's some more info on claiming points here and here. See how you go.

    Thanks for the reply M'bear!

Worked out - score 110 points... (this hasn't been completed yet though).

Seems we will have enough points used the "expression of interest". again not submitted yet though.

roughly - how long is the wait time? 1 year / 2 years?

How long the process takes depends on which branch of INZ you are using and whether everything goes smoothly i.e. your paperwork is all in order and there are no issues with your medical. Some people, especially those with job offers or 140 points or more, get through it within a few months but others can be waiting more than one year. INZ will take people with most points first and then work down to those who have less.
