Default On route back to the UK

As the title says - I am writing this from Singapore Airport on route back to the UK. Only problem is that I am on my own - OH & my 2 boys are still in NZ waiting to sell the house We had hoped to all come back together but my old employers held the job for me for 4 months but couldn't hold it any longer so here I am. Hope it won't be too long before we are a family again. Bit emotional at the airport but we survived. Had the tears in my eyes again earlier when I was talking to them all on MSN - especially my youngest. I hope it gets easier as time goes on. Will up date you all on my thoughts of the UK after having spent 8 months in NZ when I get back.

It will be very interesting to hear how you find the UK after being away for many months. News we've had coming out of the UK hasn't been very encouraging so look forward to seeing how you settle down again. It's a big bonus you've got a job to go to and everything should be familiar to you.

All the best for your 'renewed' life back home.

I've been back here for 5 days now and in that time I have bought a car and been into work to get all my documents sorted etc... Feels like the first week in NZ. The weather here is quite good - not as hot as NZ got in Spring but quite pleasant. I don't know what I expected having been away for 8 months but things look and feel exactly the same. Weird living with my mum but ok. Finding it difficult in some areas as I have not lived in the UK for 8 months - for example I tried to sign up for a contract for my phone but as I had only lived at this address for a couple of days they could not credit score me even though my credit rating is excellent so couldn't get it. For my CRB check for work they needed confiormation of my address - I am living with my mum and don't get any bills etc... here!!! Seems like the last 40+ years count for nothing. In a way it is probably better that I am here first so these things can all get sorted before the bulk of the family get back and we start needing reference for landlords etc... I feel like I am on holiday at the moment but that will change when I start work on Tuesday.

Miss OH & the boys like crazy but I speak to them on Skype twice a day so we do keep in touch. That will slow down when I start work as the time difference will make it a bit more difficult. Hopefully won't be too long before we are back together again.

Good luck on the house sale & reunion with the menfolk.

    Hi Nicky,

This will be a small consolation, but DD's Bunnings advert was on THREE times during the 10.30pm news on TVOne last night (Thursday 28th)! More coverage than Manchester United's dismal performance against Barca.

    Hope you're ok.

Have you been able to get a Doctor?

As you have been out for over 6 months and live with your Mum they can make it almost impossible, I have heard of people coming back from Canada having to pay for all their treatment and it took months for me to have my Fiancée registered really because she lived in my house etc!

Good to hear DD has left a lasting impression on NZ

Lawrence - we never de-registered with our doctor so we are still on his books. Hopefully I won't have to see him for a while but it will be interesting to see if we have any trouble though. I am going to try to re-register with our dentist soon. That should be fun!!
