    Default dentists

my 7 yrold has had the free check up through school, and tooth pulled out.
    Didnt cost anything.
thing is he needs another tooth removed as its wobbly but broke and causing him grief,so gonna have to get him to a dentist tomorrow.
Holiday monday here just now,so giving him kiddy paracetamol today.
Can anyone tell me if we have to pay for this?
Do they let you pay up?
And can you just go in and get appointment there and then?
We had the dental hospital in Glasgow town where you could just go if you were desperate.
Also my 17 yrold daughter wants to see one too,i suppose we will have to pay for her? Also she needs an eye test soon ,which is another money worry
Things you took for granted back in Scotland, now you panic.

Anyway in Chch,so any advice appreciated

    Hi Meadow,

Hope your son's dental treatment went OK. I imagine you had to pay for his treatment.

The situation is that most dentists charge full fees to children as they do adults. Some give a discount. Just a few give free treatment like they do through primary schools, and some give free dental treatment to adolescents. You need to speak to your children's schools, visit your local Citizen's Advice Bureau, or ring your local Ministry of Health to find out which dentists have these schemes.

Sorry we are not in Christchurch. My kids have free school treatment up to age 12. After that I have had to pay for their treatment with a discount, or travel some distance for free treatment. I have just enrolled them today for a free dental treatment scheme for adolescents (up to 19 if still in school) just started by a local dentist, and it is such a relief.

    Hi Glenda
    thanks for the reply.
we phoned our local one up,and yeah my 17 yrold daughter can get hers done for free.
My 7yrold has to either stick with the free dentist at school,or pay for treatment at their clinic
Though she said if my son was in agony the dentist probably would do it for free,so to bring him along with my daughter tomorrow and he will have a look.

The usual though,my son hasnt complained since. Still gonna get him to have a wee look anyway.
    cheers again
