Default Makes sense to come over in 2009 on a WTR visa?

    Hi everyone,

This is actually my first post here, so a big hello to all!

I would like to know your opinions about the following matter; any tips/info would be highly appreciated:

I'm an IT professional from Mumbai, India having 4+ years of experience here and am a Masters degree holder.

I received an invitation for the work-to-residence visa (received around Jan 2009) and have to send the final visa application by Apr 24.

I'll have to travel to NZ within 3 months of obtaining the visa, and find a job within a further 9 months.

My questions to all in this community are:

    1) Does it even make sense to come over on a work-to-residence visa in 2009 considering the global recession and its effects?

    2) Will coming over for a month (approx.) on paid leave and checking out employment options (as compared to quitting the job here) make things any better?

Always a difficult one to answer, especially if you are in a stable and reasonably well-paid job already. NZ hasn't been as severely hit as some other countries yet, but things are starting to become difficult there.

    2) Will coming over for a month (approx.) on paid leave and checking out employment options (as compared to quitting the job here) make things any better? If you are able to do this, it would certainly be a good exercise so you could see firsthand what the situation is like in NZ. Employers usually like to meet with job applicants face to face anyway, so that would be beneficial, too. You would stand more chance of getting a job offer if you are there in person.
Good luck with your decision to push forward with your application or delay. Quite a difficult choice at the moment but perhaps a visit to NZ would help you decide.
