    Default Hello, Yank here with general Q's

    ok here's the back ground,
    I'm 16 and live in the US
    im currently in an education program where when im 18 i will have recieved a high school diploma and an assosciates degree
    ive seriously been considering moving to NZ for sometime now but first here are my job interests

    * Alpaca farmer
    * psyciatrist
    * police
    * military
    * LPC (a psychiatric counselor requiring a masters)
    * family docter
    * pharmascists

    of these jobs what kind of (american) degrees do i need to begin this profession upon migrating?

    for instance lets say i held a certification for nursing in the US; could i work as a nurse upon entering new zealand or would i have to go to a new zealand school?

    also what kind of job demand is there in new zealand? is it easy to find jobs in these professions?

    also what kind of salary would i make? would it be enough to live a good life in NZ?

    What kind of salary would be enough to own a house and live happily in NZ?

    If i am a gun collector is it impossible tp get some of my favorite guns there?

    What is crime like?

    Are there any other good NZ proffessions (with us degrees) i should look into?

    thank you guyz so much peace

    Hello fellow Yankee, you may want to look into the Holiday Working Scheme on the NZ gov. site...I know it may not be want you want but it could be a start, also it could be beneficial on making a decision.
    NZ is a small country with a big heart from what Ive noticed so far. There is crime and they do have the same problems many other countries face. The salary issue is always the big question, I figure it matters on what you want out of life. Unless you invent a miracle or a big fat cat CEO, I think a NZ lifestyle is a very humble one. There is info on home ownership on this site but I also think NZ banks will loan 100% of the value, but I could be wrong on this...median house is 300000NZD outside Auck.
    Most of the questions you are asking can be answered on the gov. website Immigration New Zealand ... one thing great about NZ is the amount of info about this awesome country online..Good Luck

    PS: and the guns, I think they are illegal to own for self defense, you have to have a firearms license...so you may want to pursue being a police officer if you cant live without your guns..

    I've not done it yet but will be getting one later in the year as a few mates go out hunting and have asked me to join them (I think they only want me for my big canoe)

    Have just spoken to the local arms officer. If you want a gun licence, they need to interview in person a spouse and someone else you have known for at least 12-18 months that is resident in New Zealand.

    Thats one way to look at it. Another is, it gives me 12 months to save up for some BIG guns! Besides, in the mean time, I don't need a licence for Bow Hunting

    Must agree with Dawn and Lou on the gun thing . Nasty beasties if things go wrong.

    Skyreep, to get residency in NZ, you have to jump through a few hoops. You need to have a good degree or serious job experience in one of the few occupations that INZ has decided the country needs most. While you're browsing through their website, have a look through the Long Term Skill Shortages List and the Immediate Skill Shortages List and see how you could fit in there.
