Default Pet shipping and general shipping

    Hi all,

I have had quotes from PSS and Fox for a 20 foot container, I spoke to 4 companies at the Liverpool expo and requested an estimate, Robinsons never bothered to contact me and Whites ( who are only 5 miles away ) made an appointment and never turned up or phoned to let me know, Fox came and quoted but told me to save fuel the ships now go slower and will take 12 weeks to arrive. PSS say this is rubbish and say 8 to 10 weeks and the quote was the cheapest and the insurance was also the cheapest. My impression of Fox is that they are trying to put us on a shared container and charge for single use which will take more time to fill and so be delayed, my problem is that I am a HGV mechanic and while my tools are in the container I cannot work, so a quicker crossing is prefered, and PSS promise this and so far seem the most compitent. Please can anyone advise that has used an international shipping company, good or bad and the crossing / customs clearence times.
Secondly we have spoken to a couple of pet shipping companies, Jets4pets are only 4 miles from us but the when we phoned and went to see them they seemed uninterested and I would not have left our 3 year old Husky with them, another company we spoke to at the Liverpool expo were far more helpful and reassuring but 1000 more expensive, so can anyone advise if they have used a pet shipping company.
    Thanks
    Simon.

    Hi Simon

We used PSS to come here, time to get goods was for us 13 weeks because we had a shared container, if you have your own container it would likely take around 4 - 6 weeks. As long as customs dont have any issues the clearance is usually pretty fast this end, we have one item held back, a pressure washer, for inspection and this took a while to get to us, but still got it ok.

NZ van lines did the shipping this end and I have read horror stories of them but as far as it was for us we had no hassles atall, the guys we had were good guys and very helpful.

we didn't bring a pet but we were advised to make sure that if you do ship a pet make sure they do not travel through Asia as there have been instancies where the pets are left on the ground in the heat of the day in the shipping boxes, very distressful for them. Im sure we have plenty on here who shipped pets and can advise better on this though.

We used PSS - and whilst they were really good, it took 12 weeks from them shipping our SOLE container, to it arriving at CHCH. Luckily we weren't in a huge rush so wasn't such an issue.

Pets - a vote for Golden Arrow from us ... not only were they about 1k cheaper than Airpets, but were far more personal and extremely helpful. Even phoned me a few times to let us know how our dog was at their kennels, and just prior to her being shipped.

    Hi
We also used PSS. We had a shared container and it took nearly 4 months from giving the go ahead to ship it (we had it in storage for a while) to it arriving in Wellington.

It arrived in port this Sunday (23rd) and have had call today to say it is now cleared for delivery on Monday!

PSS were great at packing end- obviously yet to know about NZ Van Lines delivery this end but we are now having complications as we have been told some of our stuff is water damaged due to 2 holes being made in the top of the container on route. So I will also be able to let you know about the Insurance side of PSS in time.

We used Whites in the UK & NZ Van lines in NZ. Both were very good and had no problems. For pets we used Golden Arrow who were fantastic. I wouold highly recommend them.

Hi, we used Ladyhaye, to ship our Newfoundland and Old English Sheepdog. They were one of a couple that did crates big enough for the Newfie. They were really competitive as well and amazingly helpful. They made everything really easy with the paperwork and looked after our dogs as well. The guy that picked them up played with them, throwing their ball for about 10 minutes before he put them in the van. Highly recommended
