Default Ex-pat Kiwi - would like to return

Hi, I've been online trying to find answers to these questions, with no luck.

I'm an ex-pat, living in Arizona. My son was born in the U.S but has NZ citizenship by right of descent. He and his family (wife and 2, almost 3 kiddos) are thinking of living in NZ for a few years.

My son has NZ citizenship, but wife and kids don't. Does anyone know if my son's wife and kids have to apply for residency, based on points etc., though my son is a citizen?

    Thanks in advance....

    Hi Dell and welcome.

Because your son is a NZ citizen, it should be pretty easy for his wife and kids to get NZ residency and they won't need to use the points system because that is only for those who are applying under the Skilled Migrant Category.

I would post a link so you could read up about it but the INZ site is down for maintenance at the moment. I'll try again a bit later on.

Thanks MB! Now if my son and family move to NZ, then I can come home too! It's hard when you have a foot in two countries. I spend a month or more in NZ (north of AKL) every year, but it is never long enough. One of these days, Air New Zealand will leave without me.

Here's the link for sponsoring family that I mentioned above. Hope it fits the bill for your son's family.

Good luck on a successful return to NZ for you.
