Default New to North Shore, Auckland

    Hi all,

My name is Elaine (Steve's wife) and I'm 47 years old. We emigrated from the UK 3 weeks ago. Hubby is in IT and works in the CBD and he is settling in well. It's just the 2 of us and our 2 cats are joining us on Sunday

Whilst hubby is busy at work, I have been running around furnishing our rental property. We have achieved so much in the short time we have been here. We have a house back in the UK but are renting it out (not found a tenant yet though) and will sell when the property market improves.

I worked as a secretary in the UK and although I have a work visa to work in NZ, I'm having some time off. Therefore if anyone is close to Albany on the North Shore, I would love to hear from you.

    Regards,

    Elaine

    Hi Elaine!

We're on Glenfield in the North Shore and I also work in the CBD.

My better half is a stay-at-home dad/keen fisherman until our PR comes through and then he'll be off on police training.

    How are you settling in?

    Hi Tanya,

We are settling in well thanks. We have been to Auckland airport today to pick up our 2 cats whom we have not seen for a month and its great to have them here at last.

How long have you been in NZ. My hubby had to do the work permit route as he did not have enough points to go PR. He finds the journey to the CBD easy by bus. Im not working at the moment, not sure what I want to do. What job are you doing?

We've only been here 4 months so still settling in too. I've been taking the buses in but just bought a small car to give me more flexibility. I'm a PM for an ad agency.

We went the work visa route to get us here quickly and applied for PR at the same time - just busy sending in more medicals and paperwork and we really hope to have PR by the end of the year.

We are intrigued by what youv'e said. If you came out on a work visa, was that because you did not have 100 points and if you didn't how can you apply for PR so soon. Hubby has been told he did not have enough points so had to work 12 months to gain the necessary points to apply for PR. If you have found a short cut, please let us know.

We have bought a car too but its back with the dealer as we are not happy with its performance, so hopefully they will put it right. Good luck with your PRs and hope you get them soon.

We had enough points to apply for PR straight away. Came on a work visa because it was quicker and we were in a hurry to leave South Africa.

Its an expensive way of doing it but worth it to have my family safe!

I thought that would be the reason and especially if family are involved then I think you were correct in doing so. We have to wait 12 months I think but i'm sure it will soon pass.

Apart from family and friends, we don't miss anything about the UK and like you, we feel safer here.
